The Perfume Bottles are really fun
There's a lot about the DLC that I can't say I quite agree with, but the different perfume bottles are actually really fun to use and have a lot more versatility than you might initially think. If you haven't tried messing around with these yet I highly suggest giving them a shot. The ability to just do full elemental damage of a type of your choosing is really strong too.

Sadly I think I locked myself out of one of the Ash Of Wars for these..

I'm defo getting into these when I reach them with my DEX build or respec into it. From what I tried, their attack pattern looks stupid fun and cosplaying a perfumer sounds like a decent challenge run idea.

Like crafting, perfume is completely skippable content.

These are an expansion on the aromatics from the base game. There are so many items in the game that I don't think many players ever used them. The Ironjar Aromatic (40% damage reduction for 40 seconds) and the Uplifting Aromatic (90% damage reduction on the first hit you take) can be the difference between life and death when used at the right moment. Collecting the ingredients for them is a chore, but totally worth it.

DLC includes perfume bottles as a new weapon type. Their projectile/mist can be used indefinitely like smithscript weapon throws. Just R1 and R2 away to spray them like Perfumers would without any FP cost.

I went through the DLC blind the first time and it's really annoying how easy it is to lock yourself out of awesome items. FromSoft being FromSoft.

I little quirk I found with these weapons, if you hold sprint but don't actually move and then hold your heavy attack you do a sort of jump back attack. As far as I am aware these are the only weapon type to have this sort of neutral sprinting heavy attack.

I was already sold on them, you didn't have to hype me up even more.

which ashe of war? To my knowledge there are only two ashes of war unique to perfume bottles, and it's just a matter of finding them. They don't disappear or anything
What ash did you “lock” yourself out of?

would you please explain this with a spoiler tag? i'd like to avoid missing something like that on my playthrough

I was told by a friend that they think they got an AoW from perfume bottles by finishing the perfume guys quest.
I am not 100% sure if this is accurate though so it might be best to wait and/or check the wiki(s) for more accurate information.

I think he is mistaken, that particular NPC does sell a unique perfume bottle, but you will always be able to get it even if you chose to kill him for no reason (merchants drop their bell bearings)
The two ashes of war for perfume bottles are just things you find. One is on a corpse somewhere in shadow keep, the other on a tear drop scarab somewhere southeast of shadow keep.
