[SPOIL] Fear and Water
Hello, I'm currently playing through the dlc, enjoying it, and I have a question : I just arrived in black castle, religious part, and there is water everywhere, is there any aquatic monster or giant serpent or something like that? I stopped playing at this moment, and I think I'll go explore somewhere else, awaiting your answer

IRL I am thalassophobic (fear of large water (I'm french, sorry for the english)), and in Sekiro for example I was almost unable to go through this damn big fish (I did it though since I platinumed it, but it was always the worst part of the game for me), hence my question

Thank you for the answers

PS: Again, I'm french, excuse my english

With my expert knowledge on all things sh*tty underwater, it's not bad. You'll see an ulcerated tree spirit shaking the town a bit but that's the extent of it. There's no underwater combat, and you won't have to worry about it harassing you. I got through the area mostly fine.

If you've gone through Sekiro's Fountainhead Palace, this area will be a cakewalk.

There is massive, huge hydra, bigger than Dark Souls 1 one. It can quickly swallow your character whole and you won't even be able to react in time.

.... there is a thing to active to drain the water.
While it is in the water it will not attack you and those things are the tree spirit worms...there are 2. Forgot their names

When the water is drained you can fight them.

There's a tree spirit underwater, but I didn't even notice it my run. You don't have to fight it, and fairly promptly you can actually drain the water out of that area so you can get down to ground level.

Can I avoid it? Is it mandatory to go through the religious part of the castle or can I go through another entrance and have access to the boss af the dungeon without meeting with the monster? I still have PTSD of the DS1 hydras too

The water creature won't care as long as you're fast. You'll be relieved to know that the water creature is merely the ulcerated tree spirit that doesn't really do much until you drain the area

oh well if it's just tree spirit it's okay (as long as I can fight them on the ground). thank you, almost all of you :)

You'll miss some optional areas, but not the main boss. I'd recommend going for it anyway, like I said I didn't even notice it on my run, and it's a pretty short run to the lever that drains the water if you know what direction it is. Possibly you can look up a youtube video of that area to see where it is.

I don't think it is entirely mandatory. You might be missing some content, but I can neither confirm nor deny it. The area boss should be reachable without the religious segment.
