Why do people like Ranni so much?
WOW the more yall respond to this the more I regret asking lmao

TLDR: Ranni basically caused the shattering and the apocalyptic setting of the lands between why do people love her so much?

Is it just a wifu thing? In lore Godwyn's death was the primary factor that caused a chain reaction which lead to the the age of shattering. Ranni stole the rune of death and used it to kill Godwyn so that she could kill her body but not her soul so she could defy her 2 fingers. The effect on Godwyn though, was the opposite. It killed his soul but not his body leaving it as a corrupt empty husk deep within the roots of the erd tree. The rune of death then caused some of the roots to the erdtree to become corrupt spreading something called death root. This caused the rule of "Destined death" to be removed from the lands between. So basically anyone that comes in contact becomes "Those Who Live in Death" which means they dont return to the erdtree when they die, instead they just dont die (to old age or malnutrition) and slowly wither away while loosing their sanity. So basically they are empty husks that just wander and consume until someone slays them. This caused literally the whole post apoc environment of the lands between.
Literally on the elden ring fandom and wiki theres some version of this being said: "
The Night of Black Knives became the catalyst for the ensuing Shattering. In response to Godwyn's death, his mother, Queen Marika the Eternal, shattered the Elden Ring using her hammer"

It was also described like this by someone to simplify it:
"Godwyn's body seems to work as a reverse Erdtree, it takes souls from the Tree, corrupts them into vengeful spirits and then, through Deathroots, it brings them back into their dead bodies."

Ranni's reasoning behind all of this was she didnt wanna become a puppet to the greater will. Now realistically I woulda done the same thing I wouldnt wanna be a puppet to another entity either but that doesnt change that fact that her selfishenss caused the age of shattering.

The argument could be made that the lands between were always f'ed up the golden order never really was good at all, if anything the greater will was some how more tame than the golden order that it left in control. But meh meh as a player im more worried abt why am I fighting insane deformed enemy after insane deformed enemy and most the chaos is traced back to the shattering of the elden ring. And Ranni is loved so much last time i checked her ending has a higher % of completion among players than the default ending. Can someone tell me why is she so loved?

Quick edit: I didnt think abt it but like she destroys the lands between then just does nothing for 5,000 years (Its said the game takes place 5k years after the age of shattering). That makes me loose all respect for her ngl. She did nothing for 5,000 years she didnt really even achieve her own goals she needed us. That genuinely makes her seem like a useless brat thats in over her head and only actually achieves something when we stubble along

I don't really trust people who have a problem with that.

yeah, and she forces you into being her slave, against your own will. she treats her followers like slaves to her will instead of a greater will, you're just a simp if you like ranni.

i mean i don't have a problem if you think that way, i'm just saying that if you were free to determine your fate, she wouldn't force slavery upon you in order to achieve that goal.
its hypocritical at best.
seluvis potion not working is the definition of plot armor, which she has more of than even patches.

Also anyone who draws her with big breasts should promptly die.

Big breasts are a sign of fertility, its natural to desire such things from a biological standpoint, i don't see why you would actively discriminate against others preferences.
smol pp energy

Thats a funny (and extremely stupid way) to interpret her telling you to ♥♥♥♥ off and then asking you if you want to work for her and her family.

I think its pretty telling that you don't recognize familial relationships or close friendships when they are depicted on screen.

Did you pay attention to texts in game? Marika caused the Shattering. She told the demigods to fight each other or get lost. Before that, she planned the complete death of Godwyn. She betrayed Maliketh, stole the Destined Death and put the blame on him. These info are literally in the game.
What Ranni did was to betray Marika. She swayed some black knives to her cause, used Destined Death to kill her body and caused the incomplete death of Godwyn. At worst you can blame Ranni for the Deathblight spreading, but it is not her fault that the Lands Between fell apart.

She's physically a conjoined twin with her spectral spirit, has the body of doll with silly string hair, an oversized hat with no drip at all. Plus, bringing undeath to plague the lands between is fairly morally dubious and anyone who tells you she'd "the" good character is misinformed, a liar, or a military-grade simp.
And altogether, she has maybe 2 pages of spoken script for the player.

People like her because she slightly resembles a cute woman, thus is goon-safe.

Probably because shes one of the only fleshed out and decently written characters/quests in this game?

Wait, I know I am late to the party but Marika was the one who hid the rune of death within Maliketh, which was supposed to both guard it and be Marika's executioner in case someone got uppity, thus she was the one who ended Destined Death, as nobody could die with the rune of death taken out of the Elden Ring. She made them all eternal with the Erdtree recycling :P.

Agree on everything else though, I like Ranni but honestly i am more of a Marika fan :P

This post nails it. Mark it as the answer, OP.

I cant deny her ending is awesome but damn I really dont like her lore wise. I like her personality and her character design but damn in lore she is a pos idiot as far as im concerned lol
lorewise shes pretty interesting, kills a gods soul and her own body to set things up to fix the lands beyond, and ot free herself from a pathetic destiny forced upon her from the order.

like basically every step she has shown cunning and being ahead of the people trying to mess up her scheme (selv, baleful shadow, the fingers)

it'd probably work better if she had more primary focus rather then being optional content, but shes pretty important and shown to be capable.

She Murdered her Brother
Murdered a set of two fingers
Let her Companions die
Used you like a simp to be her errand boy
Her goal is to isolate the word for a thousand years in the name of her Dark God.
She is the emperian of an outer God no different than Mogh and the formless mother.
She used you, because like her father she is a deceitful liar.

You got played!

yes, thats why i called it a scheme
yes, who wanted to use her
eh, not really in her control that blaidd was a spawn of the order and went mad.
she made it clear from the start that both you and her were using eachother, she makes it blatently clear she knows your after her actual body for the other centepede
her goal is to remove the order from the lands between so that people do not need to worship the order and all things within it, to each person they decide their own fate, while she remains removed and, by her own words, doing her lonesome path.
no idea where you got this idea ill be honest.
so did every other character you meet, we normally call people who have their own personal goals "a normal thing", its very funny to call you agreeing to help manipulation though.

gotta say its impressive the way you twisted it, but in the end thanks for showing how interesting of a character is that you managed to gather all that from what you experinced.
