Performance analysis, it's EasyAntiCheat
Hello,

Like many others, I've had performance issues since patch 1.12, which was already pushed before the DLC release a half day later. My rig (i9 10900K, 32Gb RAM, RTX3080 Ti) should be completely fine running the game on the maximum settings. It always ran smooth as butter up till that patch.

None of the solutions I see around are useful whatsoever. A pain to find also with all the troll/baiting posts around. Thanks for that /s

However doing some troubleshooting myself I found the following which may help everyone with similar issues in general:

  • Turning off UltraViewer (And possible other remote desktop apps such as TeamViewer, AnyDesk, etc) jumped the game back up to 60 FPS. One time after closing the game EasyAntiCheat did warn me about a malicious dll which was indeed from UltraViewer. An obvious false positive though.
  • While the game runs fine with a controller at that point, moving the mouse however instantly makes the FPS drop from 60 to below 10. This even happens when not even ingame and on the main menu.
  • Looking into this I noticed that iCue, Corsair's software for managing their peripherals, was forcefully shut down. Launching it will just close it again a few seconds later.

Taking all the above in mind I think it's not the game itself that causes these performance issues, but EasyAntiCheat. To confirm this I have even attempted a 'free version' of the game as a test. And indeed, ran smooth as ever, even with the background apps running.

I should NOT have to turn of those apps (and not use my mouse) just to run a game simply because an anti cheat applications demands it too. I'm a honest customer and this feels like being treated a criminal while pirated players have none of these issues.

I'm glad I'm not into pre-purchasing as such I'm holding off purchasing the DLC for now. I'll gladly purchase it if it's fixed but as it stands now I can't even play the base game without shutting down apps beforehand. Unacceptable.

my performance is dire, fps drops every few seconds

5800X CPU, 6950XT GPU. Base game ran without issue, but with the DLC I'm getting frame drops and tons of screen tearing.

i had a lot of screen tearing until i went border less windowed, strangely enough.

When you launch the game there should be a option to use anticheat (online) or not (offline) I enjoy the game playing alone and that trash anticheat just affect my experience

I played the game day or two before the patch and it ran smooth at 60 FPS on max settings. After the patch the FPS is almost halved and I didn't even move anywhere, so the only difference is the update. What's funny is that the game runs better with more FPS when I open up the menu (using START button). When I close it, it goes down to almost half FPS, like before.

This sounds right.

I've been playing with EAC disabled for months, and my performance in the DLC has been relatively smooth.

I'm far from being up to attempting the dlc yet but wanted to check the performance fighting Mogh (NG+). Max graphics (but no RT), 2560x1600, EAC on, middle of the road gaming laptop. No issues at all, except me sucking at the game.

Maybe the DLC area is far worse, I dunno. Maybe I'm just lucky.

i got rtx 4080 and i haven't countered any problems..

well, other than some boss blasting me with a beam attack and that causing me to lose all game sounds. had to reboot game to get the sound back.

still no ultra wide support and uncapped frame rates. i dont care how good the dlc is i aint getting it because of this

Just to point it out there, I didn't make this thread about the DLC. There's plenty of those already. This is specifically made for the game's overall performance.

Same happends here, GFX options have literally no impact on performance (38 FPS on low 1080) and if I move the mouse, is goes to below 10 FPS or even slideshow tier.

Edit: I found out what is happening, EAC in my case was stuttering the game because of a digital on screen clock program that I have to have clock on a different monitor - I quit that program - FPS @ 60 super smooth, like before.
So it seems to be some, arbitrary programs that can be entirely legit that you run on your computer, and if they are in EAC "bad" list, your performance will be GONE.

So just quit side/3rd party programs 1 by 1 I guess, would be the fix. Even the most innocuous and irrelevant can be the culprit for EAC.

Why can't they hire programmers that understand PC optimization, I don't own the dlc and my game is busted.

They don't even understand half decent keyboard and mouse keybindings.

This fixed it for me, thank you. In my case it was a program for file sync. Now the game works like before the patch.

EAC is well known to cause performance issues every now and then. But still there are not so intelligent out there that will tell you otherwise.
One thing that can help if playing online (havn´t tried that out in ER yet, but in The Division 2) is setting the priority of EAC to low in Task Manager / Details
