why is killing radahn a requirment for the dlc?

all thats left to do for me is kill mohg and radahn for the dlc with my new char and i dont want to kill radahn yet to see why killing him is a must and not just mohg, but he blocks off so many good spells and areas with items i want, so ♥♥♥♥ getting spoiled of this one thing, why do we need to kill radahn?
