Fromsoft simps out in full force - DLC is overtuned (for bosses)
Difficulty in the DLC is totally unbalanced and to say otherwise is pure denial.

before the simps come waving their flag, just because you beat it doesnt mean it isnt bad design

Gameplay type 1: exploration and dungeon enemies
The exploration areas of the map are a complete snooze-fest enemy wise. 80% of the map is the ghost like civilians crying in corners, and the other 20% have low hp values so you can avoid their insane dmg by one shotting them in return.

Gameplay type 2: Bosses
A boss can be broken down into...

Combos/moveset , damage values, and downtime between attacks

If it was a pie chart the bigger one area is - the smaller the others should be to balance difficulty...now lets examine each one individually

combos/moveset: there is A LOT of long combo chains in this dlc...that isnt inherently bad, but when you factor in the aoe spawning at your feet or enemy hitboxes designed to roll catch you it gets tough.

Damage values: This is the make or break between a moveset feeling cheap or fair...the problem here is each hit in almost every fight seems to do half or more of your health. A simple answer if you cant dodge would just be block right?...BUT the stamina dmg done by these same attacks is just as high so you cant do that either.

Downtime between attacks: Ahh finally. the last dial to turn...should I talk about input reading, enemies looping attacks without ever breaking away...or the speed of bosses. They never stop. Melania one of toughest bosses was fair because there was a flow to combat...The window to swing your weapon is so small, if you want to use a slow casting spell or heal good luck to you

The base game was very good at balancing the 3 pillars of difficulty, every good soulslike has felt easy once you master a boss or enemy.

But I dont know who tf play tested this...if this is a preview of game design post miyazaki im worried.

EDIT-----------------------------------------
After responding to some well written comments highlighting the importance of the region blessing, and some more time in the game I will concede that bosses start to inflict less one shots. The damage is still pretty high and you never know blessing level you should be at for 90% of the map because you can go almost everywhere

There is still fundamental flaws in most of the boss designs for dlc though.

My three criticisms are
-endless aggression: it just limits builds and makes consumables or buffs mid-fight a hazard instead of a cool utility item

-Bosses pre-firing you at the start of fights...yet again limiting builds or utility items. Example - Bayle. It is pure rng whether he charges you/fireballs you/or flys at you when you enter...making summoning igon a throw based on your luck.

-Wipe mechanic type phase shifts: Examples include, relannas moons, lord of flames dive, messmars snake transform. While these are cool attacks, it feels very cheap to be doing well on your first run then be K.O'd by some dmg burst or crazy chain out of nowhere. Melania had the dive at her phase shift in base game as well and it felt just as bad the first time you see it and immediately die

I have completed the first 2 major bosses so far with 10 deaths+ each. The one-shot or 2 shot you. You need to learn all their combos.
My advice to you. Don't be ashamed to use a summon. The DLC is unbalanced.
I used one on Malenia because I couldn't counter her butterfly move.

It gets so much worse the closer you get to the end. To the point that even summons don't feel like they are enough. Malenia wasnt the fairest or best designed boss fight, but compared to the nonsense at the end of the DLC shes a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ masterpiece.

Yeah, I'm getting through the game fine...its just bosses are "not fun". When I beat Melania or Radahn it felt like an achievement...this is just oh wow I got good rng and pushed past the straight up bs

If that was the case then all the people I've seen beating the game wouldn't have been beating the game.

It's obviously a skill issue. Get better.

In this case the skill issue is having patience to wait for openings during a fight.

Soulsgames have always been "Dodge dodge dodge dodge, wait for opening to make one or two pokes, dodge dodge dodge dodge, get hit, wait for opening to heal, dodge dodge dodge dodge dodge dodge, wait for opening for one or two pokes, dodge..." ad infinitum until the boss is dead.

Sometimes that takes a lot of time just dodging and waiting. It's a Soulsgame. That's. How. They. Work.

The DLC just has you dodging a lot more than you used to have to because the openings are further apart.

Skill issue. Patience issue.

Everyone saying „no enemies no good bosses“ but i am saying „+100 new weapons, tools, skills, spells etc to play with in a new run and pvp.“ so in essence this dlc gave me all i wished for. New toys, new gadgets, new craftables, new movesets, lots of fun for me :) cant complain there but hey… you do you

that just means the game is more monotonous and tedious. it's making things challenging by making them as dull and slow as you can, rather than challenging the player in a unique way.

Not being able to admit, that not all people enjoy overtuned bosses, is most probably due to a massive skill issue. You should level up your empathy skill. Skill issue.

No. It makes it methodical.

There is a difference between skill issue and overtuned.

If a boss has a huge hp pool for an extended fight and can delete your entire hp in one attack something is out of whack here.

Every boss shouldnt be a no hit run, this isnt that kind of game.
