Whichever build you enjoy playing the most. Barring that, whichever PvE meta build strikes your fancy; they all work.

i really like magic but i saw some footage that magic doesn't seem to be very effective in the DLC unless there is a weapon or even more powerful spells to be gotten.

As someone who got to the final boss of this DLC...bleed. Lots of it.

If this was base game I'd call it a cheese build, but with some of the absolute nonsense in this DLC, its barely enough to give you a chance.

Anything that does status effect damage to chunk them down to counter the amount of bullcrap health they have.

Hey rob, quick question. Do you know what's the status of post-DLC events? Like, if you didn't do quests or something, are you locked up until an entire NG cycle, or maybe a DLC-only NG cycle. Or what's the deal on that front?

If you're not playing naked and unarmed you should just uninstall.

I disagree on bleed, it seems less effective in the dlc than it was in the regular game. Or I might be underlvled. I’m running a bleed build

In the beginning I used bleed until I got the Blasphemous Blade and from there on everything was a walk.
However you should just play the way you like

Started out with my Draconic Knight build
(Dragonscale Blade / Gravel Stone Seal > Lightning Bolt + Frozen Lightning Spear)

But since that is a very short Katana and a bit too weak for the challenges to come, i had to respec to a more powerful build... (The weapon art hits like a truck though, and looks stylish too. Also: Frostbite is my favorite status ailment)

Maybe i was a bit too quick to throw in the towel, though... The miniboss that made me switch was one of these dreaded NPC fights, PvP style...
I absolutely despise these fights. They can auto-dodge anything i use and punish my every input in return. And he was a poise monster, too. Had to trade, and with everything two shotting me early in the DLC? Trading is something you can't afford at any cost.

Continued with my Dark Moon Battlemage and had a much easier time with that guy
(Dark Moon GS / Carian Regal Scepter > Ranni's Dark Moon + Adula's Moonblade + Stars of Ruin + Founding Rain of Stars)

Apart from bosses I've been having an easy time with a Faith/Dex build.

Hand of Malenia and Sacred Relic Sword have been carrying me. I don't know if normal enemies are weak to holy or what but Wave of Gold deletes and stagger them too easily.
