DLC Story Spoilers - Another Ringed City
Major spoilers for Shadow of the Erdtree story, you have been warned.
To anyone who hasn't played the souls series, the Ringed City was a dlc for Dark Souls 3 that repcons a lot of the souls series as a whole, with 0% payoff. Gwyn is no longer the Scared of the Dark, God and becomes The Scared of, Dark God, becoming an almost mustache curling villain. Much of the same was done with Miquella.
The DLC completely loses the plot when it comes to the amount of turns it takes with not only lore, but gameplay and character assassination, I'm just not sure who.
Mohg is no longer the incest, dynasty, and blood obsessed weirdo, to a sad, mind controlled omen who doesn't have an identity. His spear, clothes, dynasty, spells and even his connection to the formless mother, are all from a society that's locked away in the shadow lands. It's all Miquella, he implanted these thoughts as St Trina so he can enact his "plan"!?
So, turns out Miquella was supposed to marry Radahn, but Radahn refused and that's why Caelid got nuked. It wasn't because Malenia got tricked into fighting Radahn, it's just because he refused to become his consort. It's also the reason why Radahn holds up the stars, not to stop some catastrophe, but so he doesn't have to get married, because the stars dictate when you get married for some reason. Not only that, but Miquella uses Mohg's corpse to revive Radahn, (which just feels like a reason to not make a new boss), so they can rule together? To become a new god? Radahn's not sapient, just a mindless amalgamation puppet of his two half brothers. Non of it makes any sense. The Haligtree was supposed ascend Miquella, his needle to help undo his and his sisters fate, but it was all a lie? The Miquella in the DLC is not the same as the one in the base game.
Metyr, while being a cool boss, completely ruins the lore and rules of the game. How is it that Ranni, the most powerful being in the lands between, needs a special finger slaying blade, but we can kill the "Mother of Fingers" with literally anything? Couldn't even give it the Rykard/Yhorm/Storm King gimmick? And speaking of Rykard, Metyr is the reason "Rykard's" hands are roaming around, they're not from Rykard like it was previously speculated, which means the hands are actually an offshoot of the fingers. Why they're locked away with the omen makes even less sense now.
Speaking of Rykard, Messmer literally makes no sense in any way shape or form. Rykard, the Lord of Blasphemy, had to come before Messmer. Why is Rykard blasphemous, while Marika employs Messmer to do the same thing? Messmer is literally being eaten alive by an abyssal serpent, it feels like there's something miss here. In the little we know about him, he used to kill "those stripped from the Grace of Gold", but without the rune of death, how is he killing? Why do his flames kinda look like Destined Death, but not inflict it?
Lastly, the biggest contrivance for the whole DLC, there's literally nothing in it that pertains to Godwyn or Deathblight. The Scadutree Avatar is very clearly meant to be some sort of Deathblight avatar, it's even in a lake of grace and Deathblight, but clearly got scrapped for this new "plot" if you can even call it that. Not to mention everything related to "Darkness" just screams Death, but hey, we really need this whole incest plotline to get even more contrived so no one can understand the overarching story just like the Ringed City did to all of Dark Soul's lore.
Now, if you have made it to the end of my TED talk -_o, what are your opinions and speculations on the lore now that the DLC is out.
