As a Spellblade - Blackgaol Knight
How do I beat the Blackgaol Knight with a build using DMGS and magic? I’m having trouble seeing the openings.

I am trying to wait for him to fire the crossbow and then run in for an attack but he catches me and punishes by staggering me.

Will a shield help? I usually hold a staff in my left hand. I am seeing that people with STR builds aren’t having as much of an issue.

I have two Scadurtree upgrades.

summon a guy with armor and a big sword to help you. Spells take a real long time to wear that guy down.

Thanks for the advice but I’m trying to solo him. Maybe I switch to STR build then?

I've been chugging along with vigor/end/faith and minimum str/dex to my weapons I like.

good idea, i might go back to Faith. Anyway, for any other caster (90 or more INT) having issues, what I did was just two hand the DMGS and put on Claw Talisman and Dragoncrest Shield +2. I then dodged his crossbow then would run in and jump R2 and follow up with two R1s then back up and wait for him to attack, I'd dodge then jump R2 with two R1s again. Did that over and over until he died.

Used dark moon gs. Just run straigth into him and jump BONK. No need to wait for a crossbow. Then simply light BONK's till you have a stamina for a single roll then repeat.

reminder that if it's one of your first fights in the DLC, you need to gather scadutree levels before being able to tackle even elite mobs/minibosses

I don't wanna spoil anything but the guard in front of a world boss's door took me more tries than the boss himself

I know the openings are hard to see at first, but they are there. As a faith build, I used most my spells when I had the range and learned his openings. You also can stagger him a bit depending on the spell you use. I think it just takes practice but you can do it. Best of luck.
also just ftw, his armor while doesn't look chonky is among one of the highest poise set in game, so if you get greedy and expect him to be stunned, he will F u up
