I'm one of those folks, but after getting scrubbed with 1-3 shots (using mohgs spear that was hitting like a toothpick on the Lord of Frenzy boss, i decided to switch to an unupgraded buckler for some parries, and then the boss went down after a few tries. Mohgs spear is basically useless for these bosses, the ash is basically for clearing rooms of fodder enemies and nothing more if you ask me.
Btw have you faced this dude? His HP is nuts he's even worse than Messmer for me. Post that kill vid if you ever get a chance, He had like 30+ kills on me.
You don't need to dodge if YOU are the boss.
Haven't found him yet even though I was already spoiled that he is a boss.
I'm one of those guys that has to explore every nook and cranny to make sure I'm not missing anything (and even then a friend just showed me a talisman I missed) so it takes me a while to catch up.
And sure, I will, I'm recording pretty much everything to share with some friends already
If you ever manage to remember, PM me the link if you ever get it uploaded. I'd love to see how you manage to deal with this headache >_<
If you dont want to do it solo and you summon someone, for your sake do NOT summon Leda. She does trash damage and causes the boss to aggro unpredictably. DO NOT SUMMON LEDA. Boss health and resistances scale with number of players, and Leda is not worth the extra boss scaling. IMO boss fights are easiest with TWO players, as in the host and ONE summon. That way, you can juggle aggro between the two of you nice and simple.
There are two (or three if co-op) big attack windows for you. First one is when Rellana switches to phase 2 and lights up her swords. She just stands still and lets you attack. HOWEVER if you get greedy she will fk you up with either the followup flame spam or magic projectiles.
The second attack window, CO-OP only, is for her attack after the buff. Whoever has her aggro makes some distance and she will start throwing projectiles, which gives the other player free reign to attack even more. Just be careful because if they start attacking too early she will switch targets and fk you up.
Third window is after the twin moons attack, which can be prepared for by jumping towards her as the moons smash into the ground. This is the safest attack window you're gonna get so make the most of it.
For her regular attack patterns, you need to be very patient. You need to learn the attack patterns and recognise when Rellana is going to end a combo or keep going. Even then, you're only going to have enough time to get one or two pokes in for each window. The easiest combos to punish that I can remember in phase one are the one that ends with the cross slash, and the one that ends with the diagonal slash from both blades.
Now for general tips.
Due to the small attack windows, I recommend fast weapons that inflict status like rot, bleed, or frostbite. Blood or frost infused rapiers, the new light greatsword Milady, which I currently use when I put my sign down, or some other fast crap. I also use the antspur rapier at the start of each fight to inflict rot.
This may be obvious to some, but equip talismans that prioritise survival over damage. So switch out your axe talisman or whatever for a damn spelldrake talisman +3 and a pearldrake talisman and you won't get one shotted anymore.
Light rolling will make this fight MUCH MUCH easier. If you don't want to wear less armor, get a nice big shield with 100 physical resist and some good magic resist. I've seen other players block entire combos with the silver mirrorshield that would have killed them otherwise, and if you don't have that one, the carian knight shield would probably work as well.
Make sure your armour has good Physical, magic, and fire resist. Those are the damage types Rellana does.
Choosing the right buffs is important as well. Use boiled crab. I dont know what its called but I've seen SO MANY people use that stupid ass regen buff that overwrites the boiled crab and I cry everytime it happens. Regen is ♥♥♥♥ in this fight because Rellana attacks too frequently for regen to do anything worth a damn. The physical resistance from the crab helps immensely in phase 1 and is far more valuable imo.
Flask of physick is also important. I've seen so many people just straight up not use it. WHY?? ITS FREE AND INFINITE. DRINK YOUR FLASK OF PHYSICK.
Anyways, I recommend crimson bubbletear and opaline hardtear. For the love of god do not use the opaline bubbletear I know it's popular, but It is useless in this fight.
LASTLY, PERSISTENCE IS KEY. You won't beat her on the first try, and probably not the second, third, or fourth try. That's ok. Keep a cool head and if you aren't making any progress then close the game and cool off and try again later. I've beaten Rellana around 50 times at this point and she still manages to get my ass from time to time.
If you read all this bs I just wrote and went to fight and gave it your all and STILL get your ass beat, my friend code is 234925921. Add me and I'll help you beat Rellana.
Apologies for any spelling or whatever bs mistakes I made in this post, it's late and I'm tired asf. Good luck fellas.

I got there on a hybrid melee-spellcaster int build (+4 blessing I think). Magic damage does not work very well. After many attempts I just threw in the towel and used the NPC summon as a DISTRACTION CARNIFEX and it was easy.
My next few builds on the go, waiting in the queue to run the DLC, will likely have no such trouble; a strength, a dex, and an arcane build.
