This is brutal
While the base game is for Souls newcomers and I don't remember a single boss apart from Malaria who took me at least 5 tries, this DLC kicks some ass. The very first boss - Blackgaol Knight - seems unbeatable. Do you guys have any tips how to beat him with a melee build?

Or just use the special DLC item and TADAM.
What item is that? I'm only 3 hours in.
Scadutree fragments. Makes you hit harder and take less damage basically. You use them at grace like Golden seeds. There all around the map. Mostly churches but kinda random tbh.

i treat it like fighting an NPC.
spacing, knowing you weapon reach and staggering is very important.

Thats the ghost knight? I jump attacked him with success but beat him with a couple friends and we jump attacked him to death. I might of been able to beat him myself..... level 120.

He 2 shot me, full Crucible armor, 80+ poise, level 205. Blasphemous Blade is a massive carry to anyone he needs help.

Pretty much. Respecced my build just to get more strength to see if it would help out against the boss and nope. Barely noticeable despite dumping an extra 20lvls into strength (was at 40).

Levels are mostly only needed for meeting level caps. Meaning it's probably 'meta' to care more about meeting incantation requirements for support buffs than raw damage. The +15% damage from Golden Vow with a 25 Faith Cap is going to do a LOT more for you than a high strength stat.

you are just supposed to parry all his attacks, very easy

I have a blessing I picked up somewhere. 120 is low eh? lol ya I'm gud, but I agree, you could do the dlc at at a lower level than 120, but you'd want lots of health and a +25 weapon.

I used the greatsword from the Elden Beast, the skill knocks the knight *every time*. He stands up, he falls down immediately. Rinse and repeat till he dies. He doesn't even get a single attack against you.

Save your stamina to hit him while he is still. Several of his moves have a lot of hyperarmor and he will poise through your hits. After he shoots the crossbow he is an easy target. You may get a 2nd hit after staggering him if you're close but he will recover before the attack begins and immediately leap backward. He can hit you from longer range than it seems like he should. He heal punishes hard. Use the environment to block off his line of attack before healing.

This is the boss that made me finally try to get good at parrying. It works incredibly well on him.

I was tempted to pull out a shield to parry him. One of the moves he ends a combo with looked just like the one I would always bait out of pursuer to parry him in DS2.

the lightning one? you can parry any(?) normal attack. his specials are more to his right so dodge into his left. 60+10/4 about a dozen attempts here.

I used a great lance against him and poke only twice when he was approaching. After that, it was a matter of dodging the crescent slash, the other attacks were rather simple. You have to dodge the slash juuust a tad before he fires it.
