Elden Ring is really hard to get back into
PSA for returning players and veterans alike. This game can be really overwhelming when you return after a long Hiatus. It can at first feel like you don't enjoy the game anymore. The first few hours on a new character are always really slow and tedious. Push through it. The game is absolutely amazing once you get through the initial slog of setting up a new build.

What really helped me was an interactive map I found online. Not only can I see where everything is, I can mark off items as I found them. Its very helpful for planning your path through the open world.

An "unga bunga" play style is a great way to get back into the game.
Strength is your friend. It raises your defences more so than any other stat and you can two hand to give yourself a virtual 1.5x increase to the strength stat.

Go grab an early Zweihander down in the south western coast of the weeping peninsula and enjoy.

Hope this helps returning players...

Worse when random 180 day bans are going on for what seems to be a glitch...

I haven't played Elden Ring for more than a year, and yeah. I can definitely feel the 'rust'. But there ain't nothing a small application of WD40 can't fix.

I'm still several zones off to the DLC on my new playthrough, but I agree, putting some unga in your build to handle a Zweihander and/or the Dragon Halbred made my early game a stroll, and decided to build it into a Str/Fth for my 1st DLC experience. My mage is in NG+ so i'm gonna wait to play them.
