This is incorrect. The update is 6GB, the game files that are being patched are 48GB. You already have these installed.
No. Somehow people still don't understand that Steam's download and disk measurements are work size, not final data size. It's a 6GB download with 48GB of disk work that consists of unpacking and applying said update, then verifying the modified files to make sure the patch applied properly. The install size after patch is 51.3GB.
a differential patch is a difference between old and new version of some data. it contains new data, and instruction in which places it should insert that data.
so if it inserts even 1 byte into a 48GB file, steam will show it as processing 48GB of data
