Hype again? Why?
I fell for the hype and got this game, and burned out on it after 40 hours. While first impressions were good, it eventually became clear that this is a seriously shallow game at its core. It's as wide as an ocean but as shallow as a puddle. Most of my playtime was spent running around empty, open fields with copied and pasted assets and fighting copied and pasted enemies.

The world is lifeless and boring, and this game had little reason to an open world RPG, as the most interesting areas were the ones indoors (legacy dungeons). Now I'm seeing excitement and promotion for this game yet again. So, what's the deal? Did I miss something?

inb4 "skill issue"
I got platinum on Bloodborne on PS4 and reached Raya Lucaria Academy.

DLC release soon hence the hype

People that liked it are excited about the dlc, me included. If you don't like it then you won't understand why other people do.

Nope you didn't miss anything you just don't like the game. I know it's hard to believe that you're not the main character of the entire world but many people do like it and are hyped for it.

My suggestion would be to not worry about it and just go and play another game that you are hyped to play.

That's what I do when I don't like a game.

...That's the mid-game, dude

But on a serious note, it's not an uncommon opinion to say that Elden Ring should've gone with a non-open world level design. I for one think so too, but i'm not here to circlejerk. Basically, open world to the average joe's eye=endless content. The ones who are just in it for the fun of it and ain't thinking too much on things. Straight sword #8 could have the same exact moveset, but picking it up in nowhereville is neuron pleasing enough

Now, if you've been living under a rock, the DLC of this game is literally just around the corner. FromSoftware's DLCs have had a track record of being better than the base game. Either in quality or quantity. That likely going to be both in Elden Ring's case. For once, in a long time since Bloodborne, there's going to be a new spin on the generic weapon types stuck from DS1. Already people loved base Elden Ring to hell and back, regardless of your opinion of it. Fester that cycle of its life before the DLC, all the people flocking in. Then the trailer drops for the DLC and everyone's joining in culmination.

You haven't even played 40 hours. It's also kind of ironic that you're complaining that the game is repetitive when your profile lists Total war Warhammer 3 and Deep Rock Galactic as your most played games of last year, both of which are extremely repetitive games.

game is best in slot in basically every category except cinematic broccoli haircut approved 6 hour campaigns, you need to actually read to understand the lore, its the only true "video game" you have on the market that doesnt feel like it was churned out by a AI that makes $70 video games

A good analogy would be an ocean that's as shallow as a puddle

You're thinking of the expression "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle"
