Hi bud, not sure I understand. How can one change the preferred copy?
you have to go to a game's page that at least 2 people on your family owns. In my case I went to Dead By Daylight, which I have a copy and my friend have a copy as well. Then the option to choose which one appears in the game's page, I just selected his copy and something mustve updated
it worked, thank you very much

i read all these comments, i ask for help at last from all your understanding. After two hours nothing is worse then to miss the release, i hope your issues will be fixxed soon. My questions is, if my account im playing on, does not own but borrowed through library sharing, has the dlc bought it will work for the borrowed version? Or do i need to buy it for the original account, which seems like that doesnt work so why am i asking.

That's not true, as I only own the base game. The familiy sharing doesn't say that we have the dlc shared, but it still works if I choose that copy.

How do you choose the copy? or are you just joking?

Family share is supported, just go onto another game that 2 people have from your family share, change the preferred copy to the other one, then go back to elden ring. That worked for me and the DLC is downloading now. Hope this helps someone :)

How were you able to change the copy? I go to a game where me and a friend both have, Baldurs Gate 3, I left click the game, go to properties and nothing shows up in the bottom of the general tab. Me and my friend both have the "Steam Families Beta". I've tried this for other games but nothing shows up to change a copy.

It isn't in properties, it's under the "PLAY" button. Should say "From your Steam Library" or "Shared from your Steam Family member", then to the right of that you should be able to click "Change preferred copy". Change the preferred copy to anyone else's, then go back to Elden Ring, and then you should be able to change the preferred copy to the person who has the DLC. Hope this helps!

I'm looked this topic early, and just wanted to update.
I turned my steam to offline and played 3 hours of the game, I don't no if now available for everyone, but if no, turning the steam off maybe help

just to be more specific, Steam family Beta does share the dlc, and using the method of changing the copy worked for me. In Account details>Family mode management>Library, look for a game that has more than one member (it will appear as a number 2 inside a circle), click on it and it will send you to the library. If before the option to change preferred copy did not appear in elden ring, now in the game that has more than one member it should appear, change it to another one and elden ring should start updating.

Can someone please help me. I'm in the steam families beta but it doesn't let me change my preferred copy. It's a game I know me and someone else in my steam family has. It won't let me do it from the game's page or from the properties tab. What am I doing wrong? I tried to update steam but it told me there was no update.

Thanks a bunch! I might add that this might not work for some games that are owned by both parties. I tried using Baldurs Gate 3 first but it did not have the option of change preferred copy. Luckily both my friend and I also owned skullgirls, going to the game page gave me the option of "change preferred copy" right under the install button, which prompted elden ring auto update after. Thank you again for this solution
