Beginner Help?
I have been wanting to play this game again, bought months ago but dying and losing grace made me ragequit.. played lies of p and once again I have this urge to finish it.

However, it's kinda overwhelming with a soulslike being open world, dying to big old creatures, no idea on where to go or what to do? I tried following the white light from checkpoints but still feel confused ...

Are there any good guides/walkthroughs that can get me jumpstart this..

grace points to where you need to go, how exactly do you feel lost? since the grace leads you to stormveil castle, then after arriving liurnia it points towards raya lucaria and after that its finding the way to get to the capital

First area is limgrave, so do everything there, then go to the next area and do the same
etc
also the game always tells you where to go so there is no excuse on getting lost

If you look at Elden Ring less like an open world game (it isn't one anyway) and more like an open zone game, it becomes easier to digest like that.

Start with Limgrave, including The Weeping Peninsula, then head to Stormveil Castle, and north to Liurnia. Leave Caelid until after Liurnia. Altus Plateau, north of Liurnia is best left till after Caelid. By then, you should be fine going whatever direction you choose.

Quite early you find Melina, since then you can level up while sitting at side of grace and ride a horse. She tells you to help her get to the base of the Erdtree. It's that big gold tree you can see far away. That's all you need to know tbh. On a way you will find many enemies and couple bosses too. Some of them could turn out optional. You don't have to follow the shortest path available and you can go and explore all of the side content you can find, if you win you likely get some level ups and make game easier this way. Just remember that main objective is to get to the tree. Once you reach it, you will receive new instructions that are pretty straight forward too.

Thanks for this suggestion, I got some good tips from playthrough. I think now I am ready to be an Elden Lord.

Although I straight-up waltz into the stormvile castle which I think might've been a mistake, should've spent more time in Limgrave.

The point that confuses me is, whether I go in every cave or dungeon I find or pick n choose?

Thanks I'll do it so. The one thing which is new for me in this game is the mixture of open world and soulslike.. like in sekiro or lies of p, you don't revisit an area unless you need that item/something that you know is there. For this one, I have no idea what is where untill I search every knook and corner. I like to get everything and at the same time don't wanna overburden or burn myself out my the vastness of the game.

If you pay attention to the sites of grace, the golden arc of light will point you in the direction you need to go for the main quest.

It's a massive game, no getting around that, but if you take it slow and really explore, it's quite enjoyable.

Pick a direction and go, but stay away from Caelid until you're ready.

Sounds like you're trying to rush the story bosses. It's an open world game, just... explore. Visit all the little caves and mini-dungeons, find weapons and spells. Sure you could look up a guide on where to get all the best stuff for your build, but then why even play an open world game, the sense of discovery and the endless exploration are the main selling points here. Like, "I wonder what cool stuff is in that corner of the map", and then you go and check it out.
LEVEL VIGOR

Make sure you explore the zone you're currently in for now, picking up every piece of equipment and spell you can.

LEVEL VIGOR

There are churches scattered around map that increase the amount of healing flasks give you as well as Golden Seeds under glowing trees that increase the number of charges.

LEVEL VIGOR

Don't worry too much about increasing your damage stats past where you can wield weapons you want to try under 20str/dex. Vigor is the most important stat early on.

LEVEL VIGOR

There's a very useful interactive map that's the first result on Google if you look up a map for the game that has a spoiler-free key of items as well as very spoilery ways to acquire them if you click the item you're looking at on the map, which will take you to an article on the wiki about the weapon and how to get it.

By the way, you should level vigor.

You can make an educated guess what you'll find in a dungeon based on the type (military camp = equipment, mage tower = spell or memory stone, mineshaft = weapon upgrade materials, catacomb = spirits and spirit upgrade materials) so you can selectively ignore dungeons if you don't think there's anything useful for you in them. It's good to do a couple of them but you don't need to worry about missing out on anything important if you skip them - with the exception of mineshafts because you'll always need weapon upgrade materials and some mines has shop upgrades to find for the hub.

Every cave/dungeon is handmade but you'll see ideas and gimmicks repeat a lot, doing too many will ruin the magic.

If you're struggling, before doing Stormveil Castle I'd recommend checking out Stormhill thoroughly, there's a hidden graveyard with a really handy spirit ash (Soldiers of Godrick) and a miniboss that drops an ash-of-war that could help you (defense/attack buff for both you and any nearby allies; since it's an AoW it has no stat requirements). Combine both of those (summon soldiers and then buff them) and you'll be able to handle anything the game throws at you for the foreseeable future.
