Upgrading summons

I have never once used them are they worth upgrading?

been wondering the same i use them in all boss fights but how much stronger they actually get by each level?

they're useful for taking aggro if you're running glass cannon or ranged builds. If you like melee, they can mess with your dodge timing and boss AI

they're worth upgrading, some of them are really strong. others have some niche strengths like the Greatshield soldiers. you might not have to summon real players if you use some of them

Depends, the mimic can be really fun to mess around as it copies whatever you had at the time with infinite mana/consumables, some of the things you can do with it are wild, give it nothing a cuckoo glintstone and it's just spam bolts like a Touhou character.

Some of them seem to be deliberately awful, like the Aristocrat Sorcerer.

Yeah, summons can be pretty strong, and upgrading them is definitely noticeable. Some of them are very clearly much better than others, but I'd recommend trying a few of them out blind to see which you like personally.


The Mimic Tear is ridiculously strong though, so only use it if you want to essentially trivialize a fight.

Upgrading past +4 is very strong at least for the Renowned (ghost) ashes. Up until then they're vulnerable to statuses. Around +5 or +6 there seems to be a noticeable power and defense boost too. Even at +6 they're nice to have for ganks, camps etc.
