I can't help but comment on this idea that "it's supposed to be used for help not to play through the entire game back to back with friends." It's a ridiculous argument, because while From Software's titles are simply brilliant, they do leave some things to be desired for some of us when it comes to multiplayer and maximizing potential for more fun with friends.
There's no harm in maximizing your fun with an offline mod if it doesn't negatively affect others choosing to play the vanilla online experience...and the argument that "iT dOeS dO hArM" because the vanilla online pool doesn't have as many people to match up with is moot too, because it assumes that people would be playing vanilla online if Seamless Co-Op didn't exist instead of just playing offline anyway.
It should be understood that there's a huge group of us out there that do both vanilla PVP and Seamless Co-Op too...depending on what mood strikes us when we play Elden Ring. Speaking for myself, I've only played Seamless after fully playing through Elden Ring twice through on my own, and the people I've played 'Seamless' with are like me in that regard as well.
We don't play it to carry others or to be carried by others...we play it to have fun in its world, being able to ride our own Torrents and go wherever we want to when we want to with no interruptions. Sometimes we split off and tackle several different areas simultaneously just to see who can clear the most areas before we rejoin each other. Other times, we play a king of the mountain of sorts to see who the last person standing is when we turn on friendly fire. Sometimes, we start a new game in Seamless to rush through and gank on every area to see how fast we can clear the game like a pack of wolves on a 3-legged cat. It's great sandbox fun when the mood strikes you.
Other times, all I want to do is either invade, duel, be invaded, or activate my co-op stick to randomly help others in vanilla multiplayer. Other times, I'll just play offline and go on a screenshot journey to get some cool shots with a mod that allows me to utilize the entirety of my 32:9 monitor or to just look at things from angles that are impossible to achieve in vanilla.
Frankly, how people wish to legally enjoy this game supersedes your feelings about it and whatever the great From Software's vision is/was. No ToS or laws are broken as long as the modded stuff stays out of the vanilla multiplayer experience, and that's what Seamless Co-Op does. It's not blasphemy for crying out loud. It's just fun.
Invasions are pretty cool as a concept (and as others have said, haven't actually been implemented well since Ds2), but they're basically a side-mode that doesn't advance or particularly inhibit the main game. Kill a host and they'll just respawn resummon and continue on their merry way. This moralising from insecure people who want to stomp new players is bizarre to me.
The game's ironically too popular for the invasion system to be as cool as it was in the older titles. We've got a whole youtube industry teaching people builds and exploits, so anyone who wants to actually play the game like an RPG without studying the meta will probably stick to offline or seamless. And if you're going to put in the time to learn PvP, why try to invade noobs instead of just playing arena? It's a shame, it's a loss of a cool feature, but I don't think there's any other way it could go at this point (aside from playing day one or finding a smaller game with the same PvP system).
Fact - Soulsborne games are MULTIPLAYER games that can be played as single player game.
Fact- invasions have been a central mechanic since Demons Souls.
Fact - Miyazaki like it this way bc he keeps the mechanics and keeps balancing it.
So play the mod, whatever, but get over yourselves.
Fromsoft completely borked multiplayer. It's not as fun as the older games were in regards to pvp and it is just inconvenient for Coop. Honestly based on the wording of their description of multuplayer on their official website, it does make the game sound like it has a more seamless Coop system than the game actually has. I feel most reasonable people that read it would come to the conclusion that you can ride your horse in Coop.
I don't blame people who have a bad taste in their mouth towards invaders. Since there's a solid chance that their initial experience with invaders is the low level ones that come with rot before the game has given the player anyway to deal with it. Leaving the host little recourse but to just die even if they do win.
If seemless gets people who want nothing to do with pvp put of the pool then that's a win for me as an invader. If I'm gonna pvp I don't want opponents that have no desire to fight.
If I'm invading I want my prey to be filled with the hunger to bite down on my jugular, to feel the warmth fill their mouth and run over as they drink deep.
Though I have to wonder why people who are so against this mod are so vocal about it being cheating yet never mention anything about mods like "Easy mode mods" or people clearing the game with cheat engine? At the very least seemless makes a solid attempt to keep the difficulty and souls experience in place. Why aren't you out for blood on the things that the only point in their existence is making the game a cakewalk?
Because the cheaters that use cheat engine or similar KNOW that they are cheating.
Seamless cheat users are delusional and think they are not cheating....but they are. Removing a core mechanic for your own benefit is cheating.
And i for one do not want my game community being filled with butthats that think cheating in ONLINE games is okay.
