L2 and R2 not working
The L2 and R2 buttons on my gamepad are not working for the PC version of Elden Ring. I have tried every solution on these reddit posts related to this topic and nothing has worked for me. I still can't use L2/R2 attacks on my controller no matter what I try to fix it. Even going into the steam controller settings to change the trigger to soft pull did nothing to fix the problem. What is unusual and unique about my situation is that L2/R2 only work if I'm holding down another button at the same time. Also when I click a trigger button it deactivates my right analog stick camera view until I click on another button first.

Turn off steam input unless you need it.

With the newest patch to steamsystem my controller works perfectly fine again. Thanks for that!

L2 on my XBOX controller via USB doesn't activate sometimes, in particular when using the Radahn's Rain / Rain of Arrows. I need to press it twice or 3 times to trigger the initial start of the skill. Will try with another XBOX controller to see how it responds.

Same here with the newest Patch fixing it.

In the future if anyone has issues, I contacted Bandai Namco through their website, and the were able to help, and reach out to steam themselves. Its a huge pain that we cant contact steam for issues like this.

I haven't played in a bit and decided to start a new game after a few months of not playing. The controller I used before, does not work now. Specifically the triggers and thumb sticks do not work unless I'm holding another button.

Not sure what has changed since I last played... Tried everything I could think of to fix it and no go. Disabled Steam Input all together and launching directly from the exe and simply does not work. Tried all the usb ports in my PC.

Windows Controller testing picks up the input from everything so it's specifically something to do with Elden Ring. I can use the controller no problem if every other game.

Going to try a reinstall now.

I had this happen to me, seemingly after a Steam update. Tried everything.

I'm currently using Stadia Controllers, but instead of relying on Steam Input to translate and identify the controllers, I installed the ViGEm Bus Driver to force my controller to show as Xbox, for which Elden Ring has native support.

This did the trick for me.

After thinking more about it, I realised the only thing that changed was I bought a Throttle and Joystick for another game.

I believe the issue is with other usb devices being connected at the same time. Once I unplugged my Thrustmaster Throttle and Joystick, the problem went away. Even setting the Xbox Controller as the primary USB device for gaming and disabling the T and Jstick in device manager, it didn't matter.

I chalk this up as being an issue with the port from console to PC. I'm guessing not many people who use a console have a thrust master setup so it's not an issue that would arise often.

Hope this helps others. Bottom line, the only thing that I can plug in is the KB and Mouse and a Controller. I tested it and plugging in any other device breaks the Elden Ring Controls with a controller.
