THE GAME IS COMPLETELY BROKEN ON MY MACHINE
EDIT: adjusting virtual memory worked. Thank you everyone!!

In short:

I cannot launch the game, it crashes, crashing Steam as well. Restarting the PC sometimes allows a launch, and even loads a save but after some seconds game freezes into crashing with steam (no any error messages/usage stays fine)

The game worked completely fine since 2022.

I have tried:

Reinstalling the game and Verifying integrity

Troubleshooting RAM and HDD

Updating drivers

Trying several characters

Quick warping to other areas

Erasing save files

Updating Epic Games (It used to help some people)

Checking for malware

Lowering graphics

Reinstalling again

and again

Specs:

Intel Core i7-9750H 2.60GHz

NVIDIA Geforce 1660 TI

RAM 16GB

The game is on HDD

Win 10 Home x64

It's a laptop (Lenovo Legion Y545

Full story:

It started from a simple but strange thing: the game would crash on launch. After several tries, it would crash the steam as well (the window with several restart options appeared). Finally, I was able to launch it after restarting the PC. The new game was running smoothly enough, yet at some point crashed, after like 1 hour of gameplay, which was the indication to stop for that day.

The next day I went on playing through, reached Deathtouched Catacombs, pulled lever, and crashed in the second room on the way back. After restarting the game I had the lever pulled, so decided to just get back again. Crash. Used the Dark sign (whatever it is called now), killed the boss and out of curiosity decided to re-run that dungeon... to crash in the same spot.!<

Here i started game with another character and tried to check if it is the dungeon causing problems. Yep, the game crashed on the loading screen. Was thinking: "Okay, this dungeon's the issue". So, loaded this character again to pvp a little. Nope. Crash

I cannot run the game since then. All the other games work fine, but ER. All the forums are outdated/do not work for me.

what i expieienced myself was that steam started to crash when i plug in or my controller got disconnected. I needed to reinstall steam to fix it.
If you arent using any Controller, maybe try to start the game without EAC, i doubt that will help but you can give it a try, to do that here a tut

Go inside the Games folder where the exe is located. Create a new txt document and write in that document 1245620 and name the file steam_appid.txt now when you double click the eldenring.exe you start the game without EAC and online. If you want to play online launch the game through steam like always.

This are caused by core driver faults or Windows internal faults.

The steam crash often happens during a faulty Windows subsystem.
It take a Moment to post the systemcheck and repair.

Are you talking about sfc /scannow? I did, no errors were found
Edit: i found one more event, supposedly a direct x failure

Check the gamefiles for errors.

Repair System files:

Open command prompt as Administrator and run these commands

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
After this is finished
Sfc /scannow

Repair the c++ redistributables

https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe
https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

At Lenovo legion there is a Lenovo tuning tool set it to max performance.
dark-breed Feb 22, 2024 @ 3:41am
Anything else would need a deeper inspection and i have actually no time till this evening in about 6-7 hours.

At what setting it was? normally it is at System managed and this way it prevent SSD related bit errors there because the file get reallocated often.

Noi set on ssd, 512 to 2048 on hdd. I changed it to 1.5 and 3 times of my RAM for both. no errors so far

512 MB was far to low Windows alone occupy this and start to constant swapping.

The problem with fixed Settings are that the file get not reallocated often at ssd's this can cause bit errors during the normal instability of SSD technology.

The normal Settings to use if you do not want to let Windows manage it and risk the bit error problem, is to set it to 2 times the amount of available RAM at drive c, Settings at other drives are useless because there exists no Program that is using a other pagefile than at drive c.

To add if you set drive c to 0 Windows has a hidden fixed pagefile of 512 MB and by doing the Settings again you forced a reallocation of the pagefile this fixed the bit error it had.
