Pricing makes no sense?
Here in New Zealand the “Elden ring shadow of the Erdtree edition” is $135 but I already purchased the game for $100 when it came out so the logical choice would be for me to just purchase the DLC by it’s self but that’s $65 so why is the base game + dlc bundle $30 cheaper? New players can save $30 but people that already own the game are being charged more wtf?

There’s posts criticising the price but not pointing out the fact that it’s cheaper for people that haven’t played Elden ring before.

For example, the very first thread I saw was "So people who got the game at release are overcharged for DLC?".

Okay I’ll have to take your word for it I haven’t seen any threads like this so far.

Odd. If we have the same language settings, we should be seeing the same threads. What shows up if you paste what I quoted into the search bar?

The post you quoted just showed up because someone replied. They’re just older posts and not on the main page.

That's how the thread system works on Steam, yes. It's also why people complain when someone 'necros' a really old thread. But I've been seeing that one and maybe a couple others on the first page for the past couple hours. But oh well, you found it now, have fun.

Well, they just made Dying Light 2's patch tomorrow come with a free $10 dlc that people have actually bought. Peoples reasoning are that it was 2 years ago, and like Creative Assembly said, "The right to discuss is a privilege—it is not an entitlement you earn by playing the game"

what's weird about that? game's usually drop in price after their release date, especially if they're included in a bundle as well. if you don't buy the dlc on release, you'll be able to get it cheaper eventually too.

Have you noticed that the majority of those 2 years elden ring has barely been on sale due to people already purchasing it for full price because it was a huge success? it's just a big scummy marketing tactic that punishes players that have purchased the game before the announcement of the DLC.

Encouraging new players to buy a dlc that they may or may not play doesn't make sense to you? It's marketing, it's designed to make more money because they expect most new players to pick up Elden ring, see a half price dlc, buy it. Realise they don't like the game and quit before even reaching the dlc.
It's crazy how clueless people are when it comes to businesses. EVERYTHING they do is to make more money for them, not to screw over fans.

The game has not dropped in price at all, that's the problem. If there had been permanent depreciation (say, $30AUD on the base game after 2 years), then sure, it'd just be a gap-filler at that point and the conversation would only be "well this thing better be worth the price of a full game".

But in this case, FromSoft is quite literally telling you: "hey, you, pay double because you supported us early".

They're clearly not fussed about only charging $30AUD given that's the bundle stick-in price, so you've got to wonder how much content they're actually going to provide in the end.

It's crazy how much defense for a multi-million dollar company is leaking from the woodwork on rightful critique of morally dubious business practices.

You're right, specifically in the context of "a couple bucks off for putting faith in us". A whole 50% off an already exorbitantly priced DLC is flatly ridiculous, and it's not hard to understand why people who've already bought the game are upset over that. I personally wouldn't care if it was $10 off for the bundle, that's about a normal margin, but half? Really?

There has been plenty of discounts for how new the game is. idk what you're on but a game shouldn't just non stop be on sale because it's successful lmao. I'm glad you don't run a company because you'd run it bankrupt immediately.

Yeah, but, to be honest, we probably need about 30 more threads addressing the issue, for reasons.
