DLC Lore Thread!
I just noticed, we've seen the iron sun symbol hanging on the flaming basket boss(?) from the trailer. Where? Hanging on the Omen Armor, in much the same position, over the chest (such as a basket can have a chest). Seems like we may be getting a connection to the past of Everyone's Favorite Sicko, and how he ended up with his dietary habits.

What other interesting details have you guys noticed?

I stand by the idea that dung eater doesn't actually eat ♥♥♥♥, but he picked up that name from people largely disliking him.
Or maybe he eats ass. Either way, he's not the best dude.

That's probably true, but we can still mock him for the nickname either way :dungdefender:

He's actually quite handsome in my opinion, but yeah, every other aspect of him isn't a good look.
I can just understand his reasoning behind his motives, as twisted as they are. From makes good characters.

I will actually fight anyone who talks ♥♥♥♥ about Roderika. She had a tough time, and it's not like she knew really what she was getting into.
Also Hugh did nothing wrong. He was ride or die. "The sheer terror of her" etc.

I mean if you stood before an actual god, it'd be a humbling experience.
But I wonder what motivated him to craft a weapon capable of killing her.

Oh yeah, I totally see his appeal as a character I only interact with through a screen, I just wouldn't want anything remotely to do with him personally lol.

And yes, I won't say ER has the absolute best depth of characters of any game I've played, but they are generally compellingly written. And then there's Patches, who they've had... what, six games to perfect now?

Patches was perfected in the first place. We all know who he is and what he's about.
Kinda like the ubiquitous crestfallen warrior.

Now I'm wondering what dung eater's true name is. He must've had one at some point, but the idea overshadows the man.

Indeed. Perhaps we'll be exploring the prison he and Boggart were interred at? I don't think it was ever specifically named.

I find it highly unlikely, but it is possible. I doubt they were imprisoned in the so-called shadow realm. We can always hope.
But if there's one thing I've learned in my time on this planet, it's that sometimes you need to appreciate the mystery, as a concrete answer will likely be disappointing.
Here's to hoping.

On the note of DLC specifically, I wonder what the main conflict will be. There has to be something about Miquella, and maybe you went back in time and killed him and that's how we reach the current day of Elden Ring. Could be interesting.

Miyazaki does like to do the interpretive storytelling thing. (I still maintain that Sellen was framed)

As for main conflict, we have the tagline that all who have lost the grace of gold must be purged, or something to that effect. I doubt that the player will be railroaded into doing the purging (especially given... almost every ending), so perhaps Snaky Bloodflame is the purger, or his faction is? A holy war of some type seems like a safe bet, at least.

Snaky Bloodflame? Are you talking about the Volcano Manor? Because that would make sense.
Their questline does need some fleshing out.

I meant Messemer, but bringing Volcano Manor in would be interesting. I doubt that there's much room for most of the characters, but Tanith has that weird thread with the castanets or whatever, and Rya just kinda ends up... sitting in one place forever. No, she's not dead, she's just sitting there. End of discussion :er_angry:

Ah. For his part, we don't know anything about Messmer, but it isn't far of a stretch to imagine he's related to Volcano Manor. They do hunt tarnished.
Nothing to do but speculate until we can figure it out.
LuckyCheshire Feb 21, 2024 @ 9:23pm
Agreed. Wild speculation is fun though.

I've always been curious as to why he wants to be an omen and why his sword is a giants spine. My head cannon is that he was a friend of the omens and or giants and was angry at there genocide so he sought out to punish them by making everyone an omen... just wild speculation thought, I just feel like hes has more too him then what we are told because he has an unusual lack of depth
