My bet he's either a lost sibling from Radagon x Marika batch or Miquella's, idk, alter-ego in a dream/illusion (like a fusion of him and Malenia since Messmer fights like her). No idea what's with the serpent though, but maybe it's a memo of another sibling (Rykard) Miquella looked up to aside from Malenia?

Also the name itself, Messmer. Reminds me of 'mesmerize' but shortened and with S doubled to imitate snake hissing.

malenia is the sister of miquella. Her hair is red.
miquella is son of radagon. his hair is red.
the odd one out is miquella, that he has white hair might be due to birth defect. In his shadow realm that defect might be undone.

If he had found it during malenias "coma", he might as well have used it on himself to turn himself back into a red-haired guy that can grow normally.

It's the same dragon you can get with dragon communion, and he also has the same kind of small dragon wings you find on the drake knight set, so it's probably that.

My guess so far is that this "shadow realm" is Miquella's dream, and everything in there is some twisted version of the Lands Between. Messmer gave some Vyke's vibes, with the spear and how he seems to fight, so maybe Messmer is some twisted version of Vyke in Miquella's mind.
