Have you completed the Weeping Peninsula area yet (the big land mass south of The First Step)?

There are two ways you can go. Caelid is the obvious one, but if you've activated one of the Great Runes, you can also go to Altus Plateau and ultimately Leyndell. Well, you can go to Altus Plateau whenever you want, but you can't get into Leyndell until you have two GRs with at least one activated.

All depends on how you want to play really, though I think the intended route is Caelid given the distribution of smithing stones.

Caria Manor north west of the Academy, Caelid, Sofia River, or even Altus Platuea. I like to do Caria right after Renalla

in terms of progression after Raya Lucaria you have the immediate option of:

- East Liurnia and Ainsel River (deep well access).
- North Liurnia and Caria Manor.

Once you've completed these you should go to:

- Siofra River (deep well access in the Mistwood area of East Limgrave).

This will then lead you story wise directly to Caelid and the next main boss.

After killing Rennala, you should be comfortable enough to head into Caelid and aim for Radahn as your thrid great rune kill. It's the road I usually take on my playthroughs.

Next up after Rennala - Caria Manor and Southern Caelid. Hop along now :)

do i have to go to the sofia well to do the Radahn quest?

I always thought the natural progression was to head northeast through the ravine into the ruin strewn precipice cave, which takes you up the mountain to a path to Lyendell. I guess everyone does things differently though, which is kinda the point of open world anyway.
I always go to Radahn in south Caelid

Yes, but only if you want to follow Ranni, the snow witch quest and do her end. You can go to Radahn castle without it, but you lose scenes with some Npcs
