ELDEN RING
What stats should I level up as a Samurai?
I am adding points to strength and vigor mostly. What are your recommendations?

get vigor to 20 to prevent the one shot from bosses then get dex/stamina. mostly katana weps needs dex instead of str.

I would recommend putting points more in dex and if you want to bleed the enemy in arcane
Same as every other class, Vigor + whatever stat your weapon scales off of.

If you're using the Uchigatana the samurai starts with, then you'll need to change its affinity to "heavy", otherwise those points in Strength are wasted and do literally nothing.

OP, samurai starting class just gifts you a decent bow and weapon. How you level your character is up to you.

As a rule, I wouldn't focus on damage stats until you have enough vit/endurance, meet weapon requirements, and can equip everything without fat rolling.

For the uchigatana, the recommended path for a dex/bleed build would include arcane. I wouldn't focus on str unless there are heavier weapons that need it, or if you're going for a poise crushing build.

- Weapon Scaling doesn't really "matter" until B (C if you're at hard caps).
- Weapon level does more damage than stat scaling

Can I respect my points? How do I change the affinity to heavy?
Vigor, Endurance, and Dex. But your statement is vague. Samurai is a vague term which can mean "I picked the samurai during class selection" or "i want to cosplay a samurai."

Either way, if you're still using uchigatana which isn't a bad choice even late into the game, you should be leveling dex. Vigor is a good start already for you.

You get respec later on. I forgot if you can already change the affinity by switching ash of war. Maybe get a whetstone?
Strength is good early because you get 1.5 times the strength when you 2 hand your weapon.
Bushido, shuji and ikebana :)
Scnr
Level up cooking skill only.

In seriousness, starting class has very little to do with what stats you run. Pick a broad weapon focus and go in that direction.

Early on your probably want to put a lot of points into boosting your hp more than anything else. Let yourself live long enough to figure out what sort of weapons you like, then push stats to suit that.

I am using that katana actually so I guess that I made a mistake of putting strenght points into my character

Great

depends on what weapons you want to use

katanas have some str scaling, tho dex is usually a better stat for them, and can be infused with heavy to give them more str scaling if you really want.
