As much as I dislike most PVP in souls games I even admit there is really not other multiplayer experiences like it where you are playing a normal singple player RPG ans then you can just drop into another persons world to kill them. this is why I believe people have enjoyed these games online for so long even with the desycn issues, internet issues, trolls, hackers,...etc.
Also, re-specing for PvP mid-playthrough is tedious, and sometimes necessary depending on the build/progress. So, the system doesn't really have enough synergy or restrictions on twinking to encourage me to even play online for the majority of my play. It's just there to "punish" co-opers and appease the PvP community from the Souls games by at least being here at all.

Are covenants the best option available? Heck no. But they're a fair sight better than the gaping void of suck that Elden Ring PvP has.
That title system does look like a cool option.
invasions are an assymetrical mess with potential for a lot of chaos and its fun to be disruptive and essentially act as an extra boss fight against others
PvP in general? It offers a unique skillset to learn and master beyond the PvE, it adds variety to the game (especially compared to static PvE), and it allows for unique roleplay opportunities and interactions.
Invasions specifically? I find them very compelling because having players fighting in a level puts a lot of pressure on you to take a bunch of different skills - map knowledge, PvE fighting knowledge, and PvP knowledge - and employ all of it at once for something more than the sum of its parts.
You could always try the Seamless Coop[www.nexusmods.com] mod if you have people to play with - it will remove random invaders, and my understanding is that it often improves connection quality because it cuts EAC out of the picture (heck, if it's good enough you can even turn PvP on and structure your own invasions).
It's like when they smurf in a competitve game 2 league lower than their actual level because they can't be arsed doing efforts.
