-Stay close. Stay touching them if possible. Part of the power of spears is the range they offer. If you stay hugged up next to them, you basically have equal advantage.
-Or conversely, stay far away. They can't hit you if you're all the way on the other end of the arena. That's obviously only a good idea for mages. The basic idea between those two is don't sit where they can hit you but you can't hit them back.
-Parry away! Personally I don't like shields, so I get if you don't want to do a parry build, but it's actually insanely powerful, especially if you also use a Misericorde and the crit talisman or something. If you try that, just use Carian Retaliation or Golden Parry, never the basic Parry. It sucks.
-Or finally, use the same or an even more broken build, like the Nagakiba. If you don't want to inflict an insane OP build on hapless roleplayers, you can just equip multiple weapons and switch between them as necessary.
