The crafting system is just there to promote cheating.

I have never used it.
I have never cheated.
But if I didn't make faith based PVP builds I would without a doubt use merchant mod or CE to get stuff just to craft prefumers or anything I need.
In other words, Everything should just cost souls, Crafting systems are inconvenient and not cool.
This isn't a survival game.

Saying crafting is just to promote cheating is nonsense. Even if there was no crafting and you had to buy all your bombs, grease, arrows, etc. people would still use mods or CE instead of farming runes.

There is a cheating in items problem, but crafting isn't the primary reason for it. The issue is making certain items or crafting components finite or difficult to farm. Starlight Shards and Rot Cures are my first thought. Fromsoft clearly did not learn from the Siegbrew issue of Ds3.

I don't think it is there to promote cheating, but together with things like shards it sadly def does.

It is unlikely to change however as devs repeatedly included such things in their titles despite knowing full well of the consequences (look at siegs/blessings in DS3, was an issue for years, yet nothing was done and they made it even worse).

Actually this is wrong, even at NG+1 bosses give multiple hundreds K runes and allow to get consumables (that you can buy) in large amounts for simply playing. I think lord-of-blood that can be reached in like 10 min gives something like 850K without the boosts that can be simply swapped to after the kill. And that is at +1.
