ELDEN RING

Elden Ring is unplayable on Steam Deck recently.
I don't know if it's the last patch or something on the Steam Deck but I can't play the game without constant crashes.

I finished the game months ago running Elden Ring on the Deck proton version 7.6.0 and everything was dandy, locked at 40fps when portable and unlocking limitations when docked. I had very little problems besides the rare crash, no big deal, overall a great experience.

Now I want to run a fresh character and did a dozen of hours or so, but recently all went to hell. Back to back crashes that force the Deck to shut down and become unresponsive. If you try proton experimental or any after 8 it struggles to even get to 30 fps, the performance becomes horrible.

I tried verifying the files, everything was ok, but today I could not even play docked on ver 7.6.0, it crashed on stratup afet the easy anti cheat loading screen. Tried like 5 times, everything the same.

¿It's just me or what?

Yes, that's what happended, allways kept it updated. Couple of updates have gone by and it appears it works fine.

I'm running Stable channel Steam OS 3.5.17, and Proton 8-25 had previously worked just fine
Proton 9.0, 8-25, 7.0-6, Experimental and "no forced version" doesn't launch far past the anticheat before crashing back to the Steam Deck UI. I see the Elden Ring cursor for a few seconds and then poof - gone!
Validating installation, launching from Desktop Mode, running in Offline Mode and turning off Wi-Fi all don't work so far

Video of the problems occurring in desktop mode (as I couldn't get screen recording to work in gaming mode): https://www.facebook.com/515100202/videos/pcb.1121997768937242/249173301600606

Ok? I think you should reread the OP.

What are your CryoEngine settings? What are your Steam Deck performance settings? Is everything pre-set to Medium ingame?

I can walk you through making it run better. I play this on the Deck nearly daily at 40-50fps.

I run Elden Ring at max settings capped to 30 on Steam Deck. Elden Ring runs at low FPS early playing due to downloading shaders. Might dip to 25 in some zones.

So Idk why you'd have issues.

Issues resolved after a couple of Steam updates, all works fine now.

Cheers everyone.

No issues running Elden Ring on the steam deck. Ensure you have no TDP limits or frame rate limits. Also, don't force a Proton version.

Should run smoothly, other than the occasional decoration popin in open fields.

Same. Tried it recently and it doesn't stutter nearly as often as my 4080 lmfao. Stays locked at 30 fps with a mix of medium and low settings.

I don't know why anyone does?

Right. It's definitely not for the casual, weekend-warrior gamer kids. Its mostly just adults with the ability to afford one.
