A lot of people recommend RL 150 or 135, but that ends up limiting your build options a lot. I'm actually finding a lot of opponents right now at 265. Basically just pick something, worst that can happen is you don't find many people so you try a different range.
Invasions are hard to do casually, since you are very often in 1v2 and 1v3 "anything goes" situations.
Pro tip if you're invading: Just keep spamming the item. This kicks you to the top of the 'list' and you'll often get matched up in under a minute in my experience (unless that's changed).
try more weapons / AOWs , learn their move , learn how to counter , roll catch / not panic roll , etc.
Then you can try 2v2 by not killing a boss in some side area like Castle Morne (or even Stormveil although it costs you 2 dragon stones) and just use tongue + ring2call_blues.
Then you can invade, but here casual experience end and you better be ready.
