rtx4070 fps drops to 40 in open world
GPU: ASUS Dual RTX 4070 OC Edition
CPU: i5 13500
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6400MHz
PSU: 750W
SSD: SK hynix Platinum P41 1TB

The frame rate issue in the open world (frame drops from 40 to 50 fps) persists, but in dungeons or less open areas, the fps remain steady at 60. I am using graphics settings with RT off, and textures set between max and medium.

While checking benchmarks for the 4070 on Elden Ring, I observed that with a 4070, the frame rate should stay at a steady 60 fps in the open world with much higher graphic settings and RT on. However, this is not the case for me. Additionally, despite changing graphic settings to the minimum (I even tried a resolution of 800x400), the issue persists, and the fps drop to 40-50, similar to playing at 2k with everything set to the maximum.

I compared benchmarks with other games like Resident Evil 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 and obtained similar, if not identical, results to those shown in performance videos. Before Elden Ring, I didn't experience any fps problems in any game.

To address the issue, I have tried a clean reinstall of graphics drivers, reinstalled the game, cleared shader caches, experimented with lower resolutions and graphic settings, and followed various optimization videos for the game. Unfortunately, none of these actions have resolved the problem.
Is there anyone who knows the possible cause of the problem or can provide potential solutions to explore?

I'm on a 3080 and I had no issues in borderless fullscreen 1080p on default settings. I've heard other people say borderless has better performance as well.

There's also the old "Disable Core 0" trick that kills the anticheat but reduces CPU load. I didn't have to do it on a 12700F though so it might not help you considering the 13500 should be a bit faster.

Finally, if you're not on an SSD, it might be disk lag, but that's kind of unlikely.

My ancient 3700x and 2070 super run this perfectly constant 60 fps. There might be an underlying issue here since your hardware is better than mine, Hell, my RAM is 2667mhz lol.

13500 is a e core cpu, First thing i would try is to deactivate the e cores.

How?

There are two options
Some Motherboards allow to deactivate them in bios and if this option does not exist there is the way by deactivate them via msconfig.

Msconfig:
Windows key+r
Msconfig
Tab start/boot (depends on language which one exists)
Advanced Settings
Activate the processor setting and substract the amount of e cores the gpu has from the max number that is available there.
Set the number, reboot

At a 13500: there should be max 20 there are 8 e cores Set it to 12.

I tried setting the cores to 12 via msconfig, I tried disabling core 0 from the task manager, and I tried launching the game without the anticheat, but nothing, the issue persists :steamsad:

ok than something else is occupy the bandwidth. there are now a lot of possible causes where your bandwidth goes.

a problem with windows that cause constant event logging in background, a third party background software, a faulty driver or the usb selective powersaving problem (mostly at asus boards but it is possible other manufacturers have actually the same problem).

Welcome to Fromsoftware games enjoy your stay.

You are in the unlucky camp (even though its the majority)

chances are you will never be able to fix it, unless you buy a very specific PC with a very specific windows version and a very specific driver with very specific settings you probably wont ever get it fixed

People will try to blame your PC

but ask yourself this:

Does the other thousand other games on your PC run 100% smooth?

Elden Ring (and every other fromsoft game) is known to have a terrible PC port

This is very true, unfortunately. The best and smoothest version are from the PlayStation 5.

Buys Gaming GPU, RAM, saves a few bucks and gets entry level CPU?
In certain areas, I also get 40 fps in 2k at 4090 with RT. Gpu is 100% loaded at this moment, but consumes only 150-200w out of 450w max

I shocked at the amount of people who seems to have money to buy things like 4090's but someone must not understand how to properly build a PC. If you are getting 40 fps anywhere on a 4090 something is seriously wrong with that PC. Wait are you saying you have a 4090 and a 450w PSU?

i'm pretty much in the same boat specs wise i've played nearly 400 hours and never had a problem but recently it's been super choppy going from a smooth 60fps to like 10fps randomly... anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

I have the exact same issue. I played Elden Ring for 200H since the release and I never had any problem. I came back to the game 3 weeks ago to create a new character for the DLC and now I have FPS drops from 60 to 45 and even 35 sometimes; and not only in big open areas but even in small spaces.
