Like regular Dark Souls, but with none of the fun and a big Tencent twist!
one day man, one day
Regardless, I think the next Souls game will be a new IP.
I don't see Dark Souls 4 happening, not unless it's made by someone other than Miyazaki. The Dark Souls story is finished and done, and there's no room for anything new unless someone else with fresh ideas comes in to direct it. I would like to see a game set during the Age of Dark, then again I feel like part of the games is not knowing what the Age of Dark will entail and whether it will be good or bad, so revealing that would cheapen the choice of whether or not to link the fire in the previous games.
I don't really see Elden Ring 2 happening, though they might try for it to ride the popularity of the first game. The story doesn't seem like it leaves much room for a sequel, though I'm sure they could figure something out.
Legal reasons might restrict a Demon Souls or Bloodborne sequel to Playstation, which could still be a possibility. I'm curious what the number of PC sales were for ER; they may not want to limit themselves to just a single console going forward.
So I think it will be something new. Most Souls games have typically refined what came before and added something new. So I suspect it will be open world, but not as open as ER (they will tighten things down to find the right balance). I also suspect we'll see more influence from Sekiro, which could mean something closer to a true metroidvania experience, with things like grappling hooks, swimming, and other mobility improvements. They'll probably expand on mounted combat and make the mount(s) more integral to the gameplay and less of an afterthought. There will be a new mechanic or system that will play a big role in the lore and/or story.
Honestly, it's way too early to say anything definitive. I suspect there will be a second Elden Ring DLC centered around going to the moon to recover Ranni's great rune (no real reason, except that Ranni's and Miquella's great runes are the only ones we can't get yet, and we will probably get Miquella's rune in Shadow of the Erdtree), so it might be some time before we see any news about the next Souls game.
That game will require a lot of grinding ^^
