I'm trolling with the reported bit of course, but it is cheating. It bypasses a core mechanic of the game (the risk of invasion) that balances the benefit of having the cooperator. Anyone who does so is not only cheating, but also robbing themselves of a unique challenge and an opportunity to grow and improve at the game. I know invaders can be toxic at times but avoiding them altogether is doing one's self a disservice. A wise man once said:
"You cheated not only the game, but yourself. You didn't grow. You didn't improve. You took a shortcut and gained nothing. You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained. It's sad that you don't know the difference."
EDIT: Also, seamless coop allows those with illegitimate copies of the game to partake in jolly cooperation so supporting the mod also directly supports piracy (if that matters at all to you).
I ain't no filthy reddit user lol.
Sounds like ER isn't the game for you. It's specifically designed with the invasion mechanic in mind. It's an integral part of the game and a core gameplay experience. It's like saying "I want to play Counter Strike but be able to chill and disarm bombs without anyone on the other team".
The game doesn't allow invaders to do any of those things. Those few that do are using third-party programs to enable them to do things not possible in the base game. Seamless coop is also a third-party program that enables you to do things not possible in the base game so you have more in common with them than you think.
I mean, if that's something they want to do, and it's available to them...who cares?
Like yeah it's unconventional, but it's not hurting you that they're having fun in a weird way.
People and their time are not a resource that exists to benefit you. A gamemode being unable to attract and retain players is not the fault of the people who choose not to play it.
Like, I guess you could say that people leaving normal coop for seamless hurts you, but the thing hurting you about it - the thing causing it - is that regular coop is unable to attract and maintain the players.
Nah, it's because people want to be hand-held without dealing with the adversity that comes with balancing that mechanic. It's 100% a player issue.
If people were using Seamless to avoid the difficulty of invasions...my argument would still hold. They weren't having fun with the added difficulty and so looked for a way to remove it.
That said, this is a ridiculous oversimplification. People use Seamless because they want QoL, or want to play the game as a consistent campaign rather than session-based multiplayer, or because they don't like invasions, or because invasions are too hard, or so that they can run invasions with friendly fire, or perhaps even multiple reasons all at once.
