Malenia blade of miquella
Elden Ring is my first souls experience and since this game came out I've been hearing about Malenia, and how demonic she is
Earlier today in the morning I killed the Elden Beast, and finished the story but I still have to kill Malenia, not only to get the game's platinum but for honor
any tips for a first time souls player

im at ng+5 and killed every boss solo without trouble but she just something else, i have 70 vigor and she still one shot me, im using gehrman build with scythe
It's my first playthrough I have level 150 and 43 vigor with some attributes raised due to Marika and Radagon's talismans
And id recommend getting 50 vigor and getting rid of those talismans, the green turtle talisman is especially good on that fight (mostly because that talisman is great in general but in that fight even better).

not ironically I defeated radagon and elden beast this way
He might be saying that as a joke but fighting her naked might actually be easier because light roll is extremely good at melania‘s fight. The extra distance you get from lightrolling can negate a lot of her combos
It's really an option, I defeated Radagon and Elden Beast on light load because in my other attempts I realized that when I stopped hitting I didn't have enough time to dodge like I had in other bosses and against Malenia it could be the same thing

She is typical DS3 boss - cringe anime moves but you can parry, and stagger her with a tooth pick. Her only strong side is ridiculous damage, which meaning you probably can AFK kill her with three finger stone shield and some passive status effect. She seem to made to punish dodge players.

Parry is a bad idea because you need to parry her multiple times in order to critical hit her and yes you can stagger her easily but a tooth pick would be ill advised because of the lack of range. Her strong side is her speed in my opinion, you constantly need to pay attention and have very little breathing room, her damage is not low but now extremely high, unless you dont have vigor leveled or have talismans that increase damage taken. Using shield to block every attack is also a bad idea because she heals on hit even if you block the hits, sure its possible to win that way if your shield does more damage than she can heal and if you have enough stamina but at that point it would just be easier to use jump attacks with a heavy weapon.
But shields do have a use in the fight, when she does her waterfowl dance you can block the first volley and dodge the second and third because they are easier to dodge than the first. Id recommend a medium shield with greatshield talisman if you dont have a lot of carry weight or a greatshield if you do.
Also idk what you mean by dodging is punished, that just doesn’t make sense because thats the best thing against her.

You have faced tougher bosses. She’s got her signature waterfowl dance but once you learn to avoid it by running under it the rest other moves can be countered easier than others you’ve already experienced. It’s a mystery why so many struggle with her. Same goes for fire giant.
You can dodge Scarlet Aeonia by running under and past Malenia while she is at it after the cutscene, but waterfowl? You sure?

Right, I always get those two confused. Forgive me, haven't played for awhile as I'm sitting at the roundtable waiting for the DLC. I'll probably have to learn how to play all over again by the time it's released. I don't even remember names of bosses in game so I have to use ones I've worked with instead whenever the topic arises.

I really dropped parry in this game if it's not against Godrick's soldiers I can't do it

Nah, she has ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of this trade mark DS3 "tracking attacks", so your dodges must be precise or her dumb damage will one shot you. Personally i just stun-locked her entire phase1 with strong attack from greatsword, seem to work best. It just she has too much hp, too much damage and too much anime cringe moves when she changes her trajectory mid jump via share force of her farts. Pass that It's actually fairly easy fight, depending on your build, its just not fun at all. Give me 10 variations of Father of Abyss, Fuma Knight or Artorias, every day of the year. You know, bosses which fun to fight an beat, because they have easily readable movesets, and every time you die you be like "Oh damn that was my mistake i misread his moves". As opposite to this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, started from DS2 lost sinner continues in DS3 and reached it ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ peak in Elden Ring - when most bosses is just crack addicted spider monkeys with endless stamina and attacks.

Spacing is important. Get too close to her and she gets more agressive - she's calmer (*relatively*) if you let her come to you.

Ye idk i love the melania fight, im doing a challenge rn where i try to beat her only using long sword, level 100, no heavy attacks (including heavy jump attack), and no summons. When i reach her second phase i look like a bloodborne character after clearing out an area with all that blood on me xd
