DLC Adding Only Endgame Content?
Do you think Shadow of the Erdtree will only add endgame/postgame content? Or because this is an expansion, that new mechanics or new items will be added throughout the playthrough for new characters to experience? As far as I know, FromSoftware has only added DLC intended as late game content. I've never seen them release an expansion before.

Artorias of the Abyss, the content for DS II, Ringed City/Ariandelle, and The Old Hunters were all expansions in more or less every sense of the term, and they were all focused on mid to late-game characters.

I see no reason for that to change with ER.

Ehhhhhh I wouldn't call those expansions, just above-average sized DLC. The Ringed City didn't have as much content as Witcher 3: Blood And Wine or any of Blizzards expansions for example. If From Software actually labelled any previous content as "an expansion" vs just a DLC, then I would agree this would just be late game content like the previous From Software content. Shadow of the Erdtree sounds like a proper expansion, since it's been 2 years since Elden Ring released.

Neither Blood and Wine nor Hearts of Stone added content to TW 3 that would be readily accessible to a new playthrough starting from White Orchard.

No Blizzard expansion has added significant content for low-level characters, either (every WC expansion has been level-gated to the late-game layer for the previous iteration of the game).

Same thing goes for Squeenix.

Even going back to the 90s, expansion packs rarely added anything for low-level content, and if they did, it was minimal compared to the "you finished vanilla, now try this" content.

I'm not quite sure you're making the argument you think you are here.

Well Warcraft, World of Warcraft, and FF14 are all MMO's so they would have MMO-style epxansions which yes, would only add post game content. I'm thinking of the single player focused Blizzard game's like Starcraft or Diablo. Starcraft added campaigns and new units and Diablo added new classes that could be used from the start.

Elden Ring is a single player game where the longevity of the game takes the form of players making multiple characters. I think an expansion will add more content throughout a playthrough vs an MMO that needs to add post game content to hold onto subscriptions.

im sure we will get more weopons spells and ashes that will make you want to replay base game
Senki Jan 20, 2024 @ 1:49pm
It will probably be completely separate from the base game

I just hope they'll make it so we can enter it at an early point in the game kinda like Mohgwyn palace so I can have more options and earlier loot for when I replay the game

Yeah for the storyline I could only see it being post game after getting one of the endings, only there to be another final ending. Or we divert from the base game and progress through to a totally different ending.

This is what is holding me back from starting a new character now. Do I wait until the expansion comes out or will the expansion change the playthrough so much you need to experience it as a new character?
i expect them to pull off a cyberpunk.

so we would get 2 DLCs, one for free that overhauls the main game (could just be called a very big patch), one payed for that allows accessing the additional areas/dream/timeline.

It would make sense that the DLC is scattered among all parts of the game this time, given that it's open world this time and that the game is already scratching the stat limits at the end game.

Man....what metric are you using the compare any WoW expansion with Elden Ring?. No matter, expect a post Radagon/ Halightree level content.

It's more likely going to be an entirely different map. Either a new continent or a dream. They are not adding the the existing locations.

only reason cyberpunk did that was because the game was an unfinished mess, elden ring has no reason to overhaul the game

except adding a bunch of stuff at the end of the game that need player to either grind to pad their stats enough to make it viable or grind a lot of reset to make their stats viable sure dose sound like something that should be overhauled. otherwise why not just use the same dps spam? If soft can't come up with different strategy, then why should we?

there is 0 reason and incentive to grind in this game

as long as you have 50-60 vigor, a decent amount in whatever damage stat you picked and a maxed weapon you can clear the game comfortably and none of those require grinding
