Weird glitch in Academy

So I'm in the academy, died up top where the big ball is summoned by the mages and pumpkin head. I respawned in the Rennala boss fight arena. Hadn't even gotten to the elevator before the fog wall yet, but I was summoned to help beat her just before this happened.
I walked towards the door, boss fight started. Get to second form and died, respawned in the boss arena again, but this time all enemies were active in the room, the boss and those clone girls. None were aggro, everyone but Rennala could be damaged. No gold halo around any to break her shield.
I grabbed my runes, killed all the clones to see if anything would happen, nothing happened. Noticed I still had 0 runes. So lost about 100k there (no big deal but still annoying, was about to lvl up), quit, reloaded, and this time I spawned at the start of the academy, after the very first elevator.

So... yeah. How common is this? I had something similar happen like a year ago with Dragonlord Plawhateverhisnameis, but that time I was able to use the site of grace even though he was still alive. No grace this time.

Right on. Yeah it's not really a big deal at all, kinda neat.


Recorded it and I had my order of events wrong. First I was summoned for Rennala, then I went through my Academy, then was summoned for the Limgrave dragon, then back in my world I get killed by Pumpkinhead, spawn in Rennala boss room, trigger boss, die and lose my runes for good (I brainfarted at the time when I saw my recovery thing in the center of the boss arena), respawn in the boss room with everyone neutral, then the rest.
