Just take Dark Souls series as example.
Twinks are easily created by legitimate means so it is not cheating problem
but people being toxic problem.
And clearly developers don't mind twinking because
they would do something about it after all these games.
Removing EAC would make things much much worse.
OP you can "remove" EAC if you bypass it, but you disable online play in the process. Technically you're only disabling PvP since there's a mod that allows you to enjoy the multiplayer of this absolutely not e-sport game
So at this point, it's become less useful than when the game first launched. I guarantee the proportion of cheaters to legit players has increased substantially since then, as well, which is keeping with tradition of the souls games. I wouldn't recommend outright removal without recommending an adequate replacement, however, so I can't agree with OP, despite the performance lost.
trivial impact on performance =/= horrific
I agree. It's a big ask to remove EAC in any case, and I would go so far as to call it unrealistic at this stage to replace it.
Didn't DS3 have a system that took weapon upgrades into account alongside player level? I seem to remember that being a thing when I was trying to trade with a dude for a Cathedral Greatsword.
This is wrong, if you think this you have no idea how EAC works or what it does to the game. It is the cause of most of the online instability as well as low performance seen in the game. From crashes to dropped connections to freezes or full desynchs.
Yes and Elden Ring have same thing. Does not prevent twinking.
You can still have end game weapons at low levels and keep weapon upgrade level low.
Not to mention end game rings/talismans and flasks upgraded to maximum.
And you can be matched with someone who just started the game.
