I think it was dead by the second week.

You'll really only find action in tradition 1v1 no spirit ashes. Level plays a factor too. From what I can tell, Rl125 is the most popular for arena, but 150 should have some people as well.
Should also note that last time I did arena a month or two ago, I was only matching with about 10 different people, so the population is definitely on the low side.

1v1 duel is still quite busy from about lvl 100-160ish.

What I have been doing is popping taunter's tongue and the blue ring. I am getting a lot of invaders and getting some good 2v2s going.

IMO, fighting invaders is much more exciting than fighting arena players. Much more build variety and your arena is the entire level!

I just leave a few world bosses alive so I can still be invaded (the 2 tree sentinels at the entrance to leyndell for instance, or some of the dragons)
man i kept non alive no wonder i never get invaded, this system is so miserable ugh

I was wondering the same thing. I think most people are just burnt out and waiting for the DLC.

Its a lot more than that.

The balance of the game isnt good, due to the inflated dmg.

The 4 lobby limit killed Fight Clubs.

Solo Invasion removal made invasions worse in general for everyone.

And from what i heard, the "Ranks" from the arena are stupidly forgiving and easy to obtain, so it doesnt feel earned.

Theres also Covenant Removal.

And the worst necessary evil, the Seamless Co-Op mod seriously hurt activity in the base game.

Its hurting the base game because it is the most GOOD thing that happened to this game's multiplayer
thats how it should have been, yet they made so many restrections for invasions and coop from how many bosses u killed and how many weapons u have upgraded....who does that lol
if i killed the area's boss u can no longer summon the boys....cuz that makes sense tf

The level upgrade needs to be like that so you dont summon overleveled or underleveled players.

Sadly, the scaling of passworld summons does a poor job at balancing level difference.

pvp in ER isn't balanced at all, The Colosseum was just people spamming the most OP crap possible. You can fight it, overcome it, beat it...But it becomes a drag and makes you not want to continue.

I think people have always had an inflated idea of where the most number of PvP players are at. I'd try 80s.

sounds like invasions aren't ACTUALLY that popular if so many people are modding it out.

If that's the case, Miyazaki and co. have been wrong about the whole invasion mechanic for a long time.

I mean, that's been my experience in normal world/dungeon PvP as well. 9 times out of 10 it's some jerkwad who sequence broke the game to get OP late game gear and meta builds to just roll over people geared for PvE with level and progress appropriate gear/upgrades.

Seems to me most career PvPers are A) a minority of the playerbase and B) are petty bullies who don't want a fair fight, they just want easy victims.

This is a flat out lie just based on history, DS3 activity lasted so long due to how good invasions were on that game.

Dark Souls 3 Arena was pretty fun. I got max Medal Icon for both solo and group. The problem with 3's arena was it was locked in a DLC, poor menus, you can't even search for a full team if you have one friend (you can't find one random person on your team if you have one friend, it's either you play 2v2 or search a 3v3 and hope you get each other), only like 3 maps, not that many modes, no rewards not even covenant medals or cosmetics or even souls, typical dark souls level discrepancy and builds (like low soul level vs high soul level probably won't be able to matchmake together, other games just have a separate PVP build and everyone has access so that teams and balance is fair rather than maybe some wonky scaling,) and much more issues. Elden Ring fixed like none of this, you can't even explore in coop and search for PVP Arena. I don't like invasions unless it's opt in, but PVP in Souls in general could be so much more. Like I'd even play a goofy event mode where everyone is just powerstancing dragon's tooth on like Chinese New year or something. I remember when Demon's Souls used to have events. Dark Souls 2 also made some use out of event chests.

it was fun while it lasted, especially the 3 vs 3 for me. At the end of the day I think the randomness of random invasions is more fun overall. And I would even add that in some sense the "thrill of the hunt" is more fun during invasions. Even when you run into a gank heh

Invaders never want a fair fight, They cried on the forums for months about people who're invaded being able to call in backup.
The sweatlord invaders are just weirdos who base their entire personalities/ego around it. You know the type, the people who try to live through their video game personas.

Um... no.

The people that are actually crying are those that LITERALLY compared invaders to psychopaths or even rapists.

They come to the souls community and cry about a feature thats been a staple in the series since all the way back in Demon's Souls and want it removed or changed to please them cause they want the cake and eat it.
