And a few NPCs will stay alive, when you don't do their quests you would never figure out who survives. Well, and some stories are quite heartbreaking, per ex. a weakling will become a hero at the end of his story.

Spoilers. Also you're blatantly wrong.
Irina, Edgar, Varre, D, Gurranq, Thops, Hyetta, Alexander, Jar Bairn's village, Blaidd, Fia, Sellen (either literally or effectively), Gowry, Corhyn, Selluvis, Yura, Bernahl, Rya, Millicent, Boggart, Ensha, Rogier, Diallos, Tanith, and Gideon die as a result of you doing their quests.
Roderika, Kenneth, Ranni, and Gostoc do not die as a result of them doing their quests.
Boc, Nephelli Loux, and Dung Eater may die depending on your choices.
I have no idea where you're getting the idea that most of them survive from. It's literally a 78-88% mortality rate.
Edit: I forgot about Hewg, who basically dies, so add another tally to the corpse pile. And all the extra NPCs who are only briefly there like Albus who dies as soon as you meet him. Everybody's dying. Except me, I don't die. Dying is for noobs, which all the NPCs are.
is the really sad part to me
Or, the terrible netcode & matchmaking is the worst part I mean. But after that it's needing to betray my friends.
that's all that really matters
