Account Penalized for no reason at all

I am like so confused.

I was doing a quest and the NPC didn't give me the dialogue I needed, so I killed her and went on a tedious journey to get that celestial dew. Afterwards I talked to the NPC again but with the same result, so I simply exited the game via ESC -> Exit to Desktop and came back hoping to have the problem fixed but then it said "Your Account has been penalized for modifying game files" or something like that. WHAT??? I haven't ever touched any game files, let alone used any cheats whatsoever ... have I just been randomly ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over or can I somehow get this fixed?

Any ideas? :/

This is a 'feature' of Elden Ring where you'll get penalized for quitting out, but this isn't aimed at players just trying to fix their game. It's aimed at people who alt f4 out of invasions, and it only happens if you do it a lot. Not just a few times, but profusely.

You should stop closing the game via those methods, and just exit out normally or you'll end up triggering this countermeasure eventually no matter who you are. The penalty is temporary not permanent, but it will happen if you persist with quitting out improperly.

do you use cloud saves ? there can appear a bug with cloud saves where a older savefile get restored by cloud, if the older savefile has more runes than the last time you played it can trigger a ban.

I do use cloud saves, so should I just turn them off and hope for the best or do I need to do something else?

I mean I never ever played an Invasion nor do I quit the game a lot, I play like for 2 hours straight or so everytime, so I don't think it's that. But still many thanks for trying to help :3

deactivate cloud saves and make manual backups of your savefiles, if the problem appeared that a older savefile came from cloud save there is nothing you can do.

if you got penealized for 180 days it would be the worst thing because your savefile get doomed this way and you have to delete it.

at the moment you can only hope that it does not trigger a 180 days ban if you only got the short time penalize message.

Thank you but yea I instantly got that 180 day message, guess I'll have to start from scratch cause I breached the most important rule "actually playing the game" LMAO

Edit: Also quick question, if I delete my save games can I play mulitplayer again or do I still have the 180 day penalty that prevents me from doing anything mulitplayer related?

it is a account ban, with a other steam account you can buy and play the game.

I explained what I was doing in detail I think, so how would doing quests and quitting the game to desktop be a reason for a ban?
And of course do I want to buy the game again, how is that odd? I mean it’s a great game and I like playing it, so naturally I am either going to have to wait 180 days (which is a long ass time) or I can just buy the game again on a new account, so I can instantly play again.

hah no its not, why would it be?

people tell a lot of stories around here and you wouldn't be the first. but to think anyone actually believes this ban was an accident of some kind is hilarious.

if i were banned for no legitimate reason nothing in this world would make me want to dump money into a company that does that.

and thankfully i believe no company does that yet.

Going back to your achievements you got in 2022. There you have beaten only Margit and Godrick. And short time after you got already a fully upgraded weapon ( achievement). How exactly have you done this ? And have you played the game since this time, or just came back to it ? In case you didn't get this weapon legit, that would be a ban reason.

How exactly have you done this ? And have you played the game since this time, or just came back to it ? In case you didn't get this weapon legit, that would be a ban reason.

I came back to the game but never touched that old character cause I found him boring. I followed some exact guide on how to do a bloodied Build back then (cause I was new to the game, well I kinda still am lol) and that should prolly explain why I only defeated the bosses and levelled my weapon after. Just following the steps in the guide is the only reason I can think of, apart from not being able to kill any bosses cause I suck at the game.

So yea like I said I didn’t cheat or anything, came back made a new character (like 3 days ago or so). Got banned yesterday, so I don’t think that that character has anything to do with it.

But I think I will just wait for the support to respond, cause that’s prolly the only thing I can do rn … still thanks for trying to help :3

Ok, I see. I know such guides exist. Hm, another thing is when coming back after such a long time the game got meanwhile a few updates and patches. And after every big update it's recommended to verify the game files. You're not the only one who got a Penalized message after long time not playing. I hope support can help, problem is that's caused by EAC, don't know how Bandai Namco is able to help. GL for you.
