Will there ever be Ultrawide support?
Just finished Dark Souls (Remastered) which was an absolutely beautiful experience on a 21:9 monitor, genuinely breathtaking in many areas.
Then I go to purchase Elden Ring, and as I'm waiting for download I find out: there is no Ultrawide support.

However, many players report that Ultrawide is supported, however it's random when it removes the bars on each side of the screen, it happens rarely AND if you tab out of the game it will instantly fix the 'glitch' and present the normal squashed 16:9 ratio.

This is really bizarre, as even a lot of old games have now been updated to natively support 21:9 and even 32:9.

How can Elden Ring not have this? Many people use Ultrawide now (and a staggering number of people also now use 32:9) and for such a game to not support it, it totally ruins the immersion, experience, visual fidelity and comfortability.

But then again, it seems Elden Ring does support 21:9, and perhaps even 32:9, but it forcefully renders bars on the screen to purposefully ruin the player experience? It's really strange, I can't figure out anywhere why this is the case. I've even emailed FromSoft and Bandai, however they never replied.

I'm aware there is the mod that someone came out with 3 hours after Elden Ring released, but it disables online play, a core feature for many players.

Sekiro also suffers from this same issue.

When will the official update fix this? And why have they done this?

That's okay, this company doesn't need fake gamers with fake made up problems you have because of your special snowflake monitor, the only thing this company needs is to keep focusing on gameplay rather than the nonsense "experience" western devs fell victim to. Speaking of that, you have so many superficial games you could play already but it's just not enough for you huh, you NEED to screw up the gameplay focused ones too because everyone makes them sound so cool (and they are, compared to that ubisoft slop you gobble up every year).

UW should never be supported, just to keep you people out.

@Lunatic, you can try and put words in my mouth all you want, I really couldn't care less.

Even though your question was answered (as its been answered 1,000,000 times on this forum), people explained this is not the proper place for it, and it will not get seen by anyone that can do anything about it. Then those same people asked you nicely not to gunk up the thread they use with spam. and your response is ♥♥♥♥ you, I'm gonna spam all I can.

You are a entitled pos. I stand by every word I said, not the invented words you heard.

Brother I'm so confused, maybe it's because of the censorship hearts? You say kindly go **** yourself. Anywho, it's just how these things get fixed man, I'm sorry but aside from sending out emails and calls, the forums get these ideas to stick in players heads. 16:9 monitor users had to do this, and the next generation of monitor users now have to do this. I want everyone to be able to enjoy this incredible game, not just me on my screen, I worry also for the more rarer monitor users as well. I just want all us Tarnished to experience the journey laid down for us all

People were saying this about 16:9 monitors. It's not fake gamer, it's.. man it's unexplainable, the widescreen adds this level of depth to the scenery and overall experience that even VR struggles to match somehow, no idea how the engineers that make these things figured it out but it's remarkable. When you play something that can't be supported on the screen though, the slight curve really messes with the image, 50% of the screen is black too.

I hope whatever monitor you use in the future is supported by your favourite games. All of us that love these games should get to enjoy them on all sorts of monitors, luckily 95% of games optimise for even 32:9 as there's just so many people using widescreen now that the prices are much lower, but sadly there's still a few stragglers
Bruh.

I don't think you know what "optimized" means and you're vastly selling the game library of PC short. 95%? We all know where you pulled that number from.

Oh it was a hyperbole, but definitely basically every game I play has widescreen support, even a lot of older ones.
I'll be here again in a few hours gotta go do some stuff. Getting my haircut finally, it's been a few months, man it's going to feel fresh

Huh??? My brother it is only a steam forum. When 16:9 monitors started to replace 16:10 monitors, there was a few issue with some games, and the only way they got changed was the massive wave of 16:9 users constantly making the issue known to everyone.
Why are you being so mean man? I don't want to hurt you and I'd never wish death on you that really hurt my feelings man

That's...not how market shifts work. The changeover happened because a significant number of consumers purchased screens in the new 16:9 format--not because a bunch of tech purists made noise. Market trends follow supply and demand, not the howling of a statistically negligible subset of a consumer pool.

You want the industry to see to your desires? Convince more people to invest in your preferred screen type.

If market shifts were predicated on vocal consumer loyalty, VHS never would have destroyed BetaMax.
But that's why so many games now support Ultrawide. Elden Ring even supports Ultrawide, but FromSoft purposefully removes 50% of the screen. The glitch I was speaking of earlier even happened to me last night, I tabbed out and then into the game and for a split second, the game rendered in full, it was like God had just shined a light in my face, the beauty was, incredible

Nah, dude. Developers support UW because the market suggests that support is worthwhile; From either disagrees, or made a deliberate artistic choice with ER.

You're free not to like that, but your logic needs some work.

And note that if you make a game and do literally nothing - it will display on any resolution including ultrawide resolutions. So that whole "it's 2023" argument doesn't mean anything.

FS had their reasons to block this in this game, we can only speculate on why, and it can be circumvented by modding. And that's all there is.

Thanks for the warning. I have ER on my wishlist, but will not buy it until I see UW support. Like it was said above, I struggle to find a game in my library which does not support UW.

I can't imagine what the reasoning behind not supporting all resolutions can be...

Well, you'd just be choosing to miss out on a great game, but that's on you.

BTW, one of the commonly thought reasons for the lack of official ultrawide support is due to the PVP nature of the game; those with ultrawides would have an advantage of seeing more of their character's surroundings than others and would be able to seemingly react preemptively from the perspective of those without an ultrawide; not an even playing field.

Dude......you have good stuff like Baldurs Gate 3 and Wrath of the Righteous but its been like five hundred eons since you actually bought a game.....

Stop pretending (no one cares) and treat yourself! Buy Elden Ring right now.

then you're gonna be waiting a looooooong time, buddy. it may never come. i can't imagine passing up on an actual quality game like this these days because of something as silly as "no UW." it's pretty cringe, considering there are a ton of games with UW that this game puts to shame.

it's like not going to a highly favored restaurant because you find out the waiters/cooks aren't bilingual. it makes literally no sense. oh well, no loss here I suppose

Exactly, no loss felt here at all. I would have felt a loss if I could not use the hardware I have so I am glad I did not buy it. My backlog is so big anyway, that I rarely buy anything, but get it from humble bundle instead. There is often good stuff there. I have never felt the need to buy games the moment they are available.
