Another Lake of Rot Post
So I just started Elden Ring and and am running a pure, glass cannon mage and I cannot stand this area of the game. I know and have read the tricks about getting through this area but I still cannot believe this is actually an area of the game that was given the okay by FromSoft. I just need to vent is all and I can't be the only one who doesn't think this area is absolute garbage. This area literally gives me formative headaches whenever I just look at the damned thing and by the time I get through it I'll probably need to be put on medicine for high blood pressure. I know I probably deserve all of this for gunning down Ranni's quest first but dear lord this is peak suffering.

Agreed. It´s crap. It seems Fromsoft is obsessed with poisonous areas given how many there are in ER. Get´s quite old and annoying after a while and yea the lake of rot is the icing on the cake. I like to call it "the lake of bs"..

They like to make places like this look at blight town in Ds1

That was my thoughts after i saw the Lake of Rot the first time, but the entire takes like 5 minute to navigate entirely. Run to a platform/small obelisk, use boluses or flame cleanse me (hold a beast repellent torch just if you want to be extra safe), repeat 4 times and you're done.
I'm not saying that i did like the place but at least is empty and fast, it looks 10 times worst than how actually bad it is.

first time?

there is one obscure trick i dunno if you know about:
-if scarlet rot pops because you got dunked in the juice it will take less damage that if it pops while walking on it
(i usually roll once in the juice and then wait for it to pop in one of the platforms, once it does i dash for the next bonfire)

but yeah the area is doodoo

If you are a mage you can just remove the rot.

By using heal over time effects you can effectively stop the health loss or at least dampen it so much that it effectively becomes very weak poison and thus you can ignore it completely. I rarely use medicine due to Blessing of the Erdtree + Blessed Dew Talisman. If you intend to stay/fight in a certain area the Ash of War Holy Ground can OUTHEAL the effects of Scarlet rot even depending on your stats.

This copy pasta is missing an important word.

Anyway, to answer the thread seriously, best way to deal with it is to just explore it sectionally, by donning resistance gear, using cleansing spells and healing liberally, then port back to the site of grace and move on to another section.

Most of the lake is just empty with some enemies placed here and there. The only dangerous part is the boss. Aside for him the rest isn't as bad as people make it out. Just run in, grab all the butterflies and items you see, ignore the frogs and port back to the site of grace, rinse and repeat until you covered the whole area. The ruins with those dozen of frogs is easily done by climbing on the beam and then shower the frogs with whatever aoe spell you like to use (Night Maiden's Mist is the best for this).

Oh and to add to that if you zoom a little past the area where he spawns to the left you can create platforms which are meant to be your fighting arena that will make fighting him easier by not having scarlet rot if you have good spacial awarness.

Overall, I'm okay with the existence of the lake of rot. It could provide a little more content, rather than just being a big red puddle with a few somber stones and two easy mini bosses, but at the end of the day, it's an optional area, so I see nothing inherently wrong with a little gimmick (scarlet rot) that requires you to think of solutions in order to progress further. 3/10 for the lake of rot, surely one of the less enjoyable zones.

The lake of rot was a tasteful addition to the game. It's a breath of fresh air compared to generic caves or more of the same underground city vibes like Nokron. It's a little bit of hell that makes the rest of the lands between easier to appreciate.
