Parry window question for standard AoW Parry vs AoW Golden Parry
For whatever reason, it feels like the latter is "easier" to parry with while applied to a medium shield compared to the non-FP consuming skill.

Does anyone know if the parry "window" timer is adjusted when using this AoW on a shield or is it just that I've been getting lucky with my timing?

Yes, the parry window is adjusted. Golden Parry and also Carian Retaliation both have the same parry frame data which is better than the standard parry. This does not depend on the shield you put them on. In fact, they have the best parry frames in the game, making any other shield parry redundant once you have them.

Even better than the Buckler? I'm currently focusing sword and board build at the moment and haven't really invested anything into increasing my FP pool (only 10 mind at the moment) would it be worth investing a few points to make this more viable since I really do enjoy using parries a lot.

Yes, it's better than the buckler parry. For some reason, the wiki is down right now, so I can't look up the exact frame data, but if I remember correctly it is even strictly better than buckler parry (and any other parry) in the sense that it's low startup frames combined with the long parry window mean that in any situation that you get a parry by pressing the button at a specific instant with any other parry ash of war/ shield combination, you would also have gotten a parry with Golden Parry.

If you compare it to buckler parry specifically, it has the same startup frames, but more active frames.

Edit: Missed your question about the FP. I think you can get away without raising your FP as the cost is comparably low. Do you also have Carian Retaliation? It's a different ash with the same parry frames as Golden Parry which does not cost FP when parrying normal attacks.

Huh, interesting. I don't think I have Carian Retaliation yet, lvl 62 and only recently got to the capital. (Already cleared Stormveil, Castle Morne, Carian Manor, Raya Luceria Academy). I assume that AoW drops from a scarab perhaps?

No, it's sold by a hidden vendor in an area you have already been to.

I'll give the location in the spoiler below:
In the Three Sisters area after the Caria Manor boss fight, walk all the way to the left until you get to a cliff. Look down carefully, you can drop down to get to a hidden area with a vendor who sells the ash of war.

These links are cached, so you can view them even if the site is down.
But yeah, both are being sold only.

Spell variant:

And skill variant:

"FP Cost: 8
Only costs FP when successfully parrying a spell (not a physical attack).

Carian Retaliation has 4 start-up frames and 6 parry frames at 30 FPS. Double the values for data at 60 FPS.

Creates a blue field in front of your shield. If a magical projectile enters this field, it's absorbed and converted into a glintblade arch above your head.

Works on your own projectiles as well, such as the ones from Glintstone Scrap or Wraith-Calling Bell.

The glintblades' damage is affected by the affinity and upgrade level of the shield."

If you want all the info about parrying.

I think this might be an older version of the site as this does not match my experience. The site is back now and it says:
"The damage is fixed at 150 per Glintblade regardless of Affinity or upgraded level"

Oh I know this vendor. I bought the AoW and yeah, it's pretty darn nice compared to the base line parry.
