I keep having lag spikes
I have played for nearly 200 hours and I keep experimenting lag spikes through the game. I really don't know what to do, because my PC is way capable of running this game, I have a 3060 and 16GB of RAM, so I really have no clue why do I keep dying because the lag wont let me play, any idea of whats happening?

Yes that stuttering, not "lag".

1. Do you have XBox Gamepass + games installed?

2. Do you have a USB HDD, printer, scanner, etc. connected?

3. Do you have multiple controllers connected?

I've got gamepass games? What would that do to cause stuttering? Also have an xbox controller wireless with a dongle.

Elden Ring, DS3, and Sekiro all exhibit a bug known as the "input polling bug" where the game polls ALL Windows devices, not just keyboards, mice, and game controllers for input like more competently programmed games do.

Gamepass games are stored in a virtual HDD image that is mounted to the Windows file system. These virtual HDD images behave like real HDDs and this includes the ability to go into sleep mode. Since Elden Ring will pointlessly poll this virtual HDD for input, it will constantly "wake up" from sleep mode, resulting in a stutter.

Did you find a fix?

I don't have stuttering issues, but I'm interested in improving performance if possible.

Here's what I have installed that's Xbox related and the supposed install dates:
  • Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories 1.2 -- 11/9/2014
  • Xbox -- 2/28/23
  • Xbox Console Companion -- 6/21/22
  • Xbox Game Bar -- 2/11/23
  • Xbox Live -- 12/11/18
What's recommended to be removed? I think the one simply labeled Xbox is Game Pass. I used to use it but have no installed games.
I know this post is from late last month, but i just recently came back to playing this game and i'm getting strange stutters at times. It's not super distracting, but i noticed when at farum azula, the game stuttered twice where the entire game sped up for a second. Never seen anything like it in all my hours on this game.

The only Xbox app I would consider "necessary" is Xbox Game Bar. Windows uses it detect when games are running and will prevent it from doing stupid things like installing updates and then automatically rebooting while you're playing a game. Though you probably should go into the Xbox Game Bar settings and disable its overlay and screen capture/recording features.

OK, that makes sense. I actually use the Xbox Game Bar recording feature for Elden Ring. But I do have the automatic feature turned off. I uninstalled the other 4 components and my computer is still standing!

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
