Game crashing when I try to load saves

Recently (like a month ago now) my game crashed. I don’t reload I just went to bed. The next day the game happened to update. Now, whenever I try to play the game, it crashes when I load saves. I get the error telling me that I didn’t quit the game properly last time (because it crashed) and nothing else works. Sometimes I get all the way into a save and it crashes when I try to play, sometimes it gets stuck on the loading screen. The menus always work. I’ve been able to create new characters, but the second the chapel of anticipation loads it crashes. Things I’ve tried to fix it:
1) uninstall and reinstall the game (twice)
2) wait for a second update to see if that fixes it
3) verify file integrity with steam (all 433 game files are verified)
4) make a new game to try and make a new save (I’ve tried this twice and I can’t get in far enough to actually save it. Notably the new games that I’ve tried making are there when I try to load a new game, but it must be an exit save or something like that because I haven’t been able to actually go into the menu to manually save)
5) uninstalled all my steam games and ran a hard drive clean up to make sure it wasn’t my hard drive fragmenting when trying to play the game.

All my other steam games work. At this point I’m fine with wiping all my old saves and starting fresh with a new one if that’s what it takes to get the game working again, does anyone have any other ideas other than what I’ve tried?

the game got with patch 1.09 raytracing this is for various hardware configurations incompatible but it is automatic at on.

Sounds like the game corrupted your save file . Try starting a new character.

if you would read this is what OP tried

raytracing cause exactly this, you can not continue, load or create a new char without the game crash.

I had the same issue, and tried even more different fixes.
Try opting for the Steam Beta client. I don't know how, but this completely fixed the problem for me.

yeah turning off raytracing fixed it immediately
