Red and Gold eyes

Is that merely cosmetic? noticed got red eyes from doing white mask quest. Seemed like character turned evil or something. Wasn't sure if any NPC actual notices the change?. Looked it up didn't seem like it effected anything but just want to be sure.

yellow/golden eyes on npcs mean they will drop extra souls.
learning dragon incantations will effect the eyes of players the more you learn. you get wierd cat pupils.
doing the madness 'quest' will give you crazy yellow eyes.
Bloody Finger quest gives the red glow i think?

Think you misunderstood, talking about the player. You can get red eyes if complete white mask varre quests. Then you can get gold eyes if use enough dragon souls. Here is example, which can only be change back to original eyes after using Eye alteration.

I just wanted to know if they effected anything or were just cosmetic changes on characters. Not talking about enemies only the player.

getting the crazy eyes allow you to get healed by frenzy flame stones, Other than that its just cosmetic

If you don't like them you can turn them off at Fia's mirror under the eye menu.

Yeah figured that out pretty quick seeing if was permanent. They have an Eye alteration toggle in CC to control it.

Red Eyes I believe had to do with the Lord of Blood when you complete Varré's quest but I think you also get red eyes from using Dragon Incantations and yellow eyes from the Frenzied Flame. My eyes always stay red though so I'm not sure which is the overiding occular jutsu.
