Elden Ring on PC
I am nearing 30 hours playing Elden Ring on PC, definitely a beginner. I have mastered several big games in the last few years, all on PC (Skyrim, Witcher 3, Red Dead 2 to name a few). Point is I understand much, but am far from a gaming expert. OK, my problem - I'm level 21 and have figured out quite a bit, but I cannot for the life of me assign items to the pouch or the 4 slots on the lower left for quick use. I certainly cannot continue this difficult game by using escape followed by the steps to select tears etc. Please respond with specific PC keyboard and mouse instructions as I know absolutely zero about PS and XBox. Thanks. I will check back every few hours.

Just rebind stuff in keybindings to your liking? I have jump on space, sprint to control, pouch 1-4 mouse up (Incarn/Sorc swich) and mouse down for flask switch/torrent for instance, heave attack on mouse 4 thumb and block on mouse 5

Settings > Sounds and Display > Device for On-Screen Prompts > Keyboard and Mouse

For some reason, ER not only doesn't change prompts to what type of device you are using, but as has Xbox as the default prompt on PC.

Anyway, once you do this, you can see the prompt for putting stuff into those slots on the bottom of the screen while hovering over them in your Esc menu.

Being able to use the other 4 slots while holding R2 and hitting left down up right on playstation controller is essential. Way easier to call mount and doing a few other things. Instead of cycling through them all. All you do is hit the start button where you get all menu options. Before selecting equipment, items , status, any of that stuff. Just move right from that window. You will notice those slots are on the right of that menu. Use the button prompt to add something to those slots. Is confusing since they don't actually do it in the equipment window. Where you usually equip everything .

Don't know how to help you 'cause when first started this game i was determined to play on keyboard and mouse (like i do on most games). After few hours i switched to my xbox360 controller and that was the best choice for this game ... and i really started to enjoy playing it after that ...
All i can suggest is switch to controller. Try and you will thank me later! :skitarii:

People are bringing up controller buttons because the game assumes you are using a controller. Even when on PC (xbox controller on PC =/= playing on xbox lol). Some control settings are bonkers on KB+M, or wrong, such as this one (which is why you couldn't figure it out, the game tells you something not correct)

How to switch items in quick pouch:

1) Esc to bring up menu
2) Highlight the pouch slot with mouse
3) Right click
4) Select "switch item"
5) You are brought into your inventory, select the item you want in that slot

It says "Press Y to switch item" at the bottom of the screen, but using KB+M that key will use the item instead of switching for some reason. ("Y" from controller, so default E on keyboard)

To use the quick pouch, hold "E" key by default - this will switch your normal item/equipment in the bottom left with your pouch. Then while holding "E" use the arrow keys to use something. Two slots can only be accessed after hitting "Esc" and then clicking on them.

Started my first playthrough with keyboard and mouse as I do with pretty much all my PC games. Then switched to Xbox One controller as my arms started to feel weird. And I have to say the experience is so much better with a controller. The game is much more playable then mouse and keyboard, and I am a avid keyboard and mouse person when I switched to PC gaming 16 years ago.

can also recommend using a controller to play this game

Bro controller is the only way with the game I started playing on the 15th this month I’ve beat the game and got 80 hours it didn’t take me long to get good and the game is made out to be harder then it is now go to sound and change the button layout to controller I wouldn’t try playing on mouse and keyboard it will be too difficult with the button layout just buy and cheap controller to plug into you pc
Souls games have always been about using a controller, I tried using a keyboard and mouse like I do for many other games but nope...... ain't happening chief.

Hey Ray, I'm sorry I forgot you. I mistook you for someone else that I then helped. Call me back. You get what you need now. Greetings
