Best starting class for strength - faith build is Hero, not the Prophet or Confessor.
If you intent to use dragon incantations. It has the lowest base intelligence which you won't be using anyway.

Vagabond is the best imo. I wouldn't use the dragon stuff on str-fth personally.

Communion spells build off Arcane, not faith. Dragon Cult's the faith one. Either way though, wretch is better. Lowest starting level means perfect customization, and no one keeps the starter gear for long anyway.

As long as you aren't a low level min-maxer that's true.

I started a confessor build and all I can say is don't! Confessor is really good after a while but until after godrick it's seriously a bad class since your stats are all over the place.

I might be alone in this... but starter class doesn't matter much. Just do what needs to be done and respec later.

Starter classes only means something if you have a clear goal or/and don't want to respec ever.

The 2 cents of Cootswig the grafted (the forefathers seen me so don't try to disagree)

I don't know about that, I keep arcane at 12 to be able to use the rot breath and it does considerable damage. Wretch isn't optimal for anything, even if you intend on respec-ing later to go from a faith to an intelligence build, you'll always have extra wasted points on attributes you won't need.

Starting class is just your initial stats and equipment, it really doesn't matter all that much unless you plan to be a low-level twink.

Put in the stats you want and either of those will tell you which is the most efficient starting class.

It matters when you want to get the most of your main stats within whatever lv range you want to stay at. Twinks have nothing to do with it, i could twink on a wretch if i wanted.

I wish it wasn't 10 across the board, I regret making one because of that. No build would want 10 of every stat, that's prob the one I'll take to NG+ tho.

This. On high level even one more stat point is painful to get without farming, so choosing the most optimal class for the build you intend to go with is important.

That's why I love it though ... (10) is the baseline and even when I briefly played as a vagabond my first stat points went into getting my weak points up to (10).

Because let's be honest for a moment ... min-maxing stat points isn't nearly as important as people seem to think as long as you meet the min requirements for whatever you are using.
