However, once you get the Glintstone Whetblade in Raya Lucaria, things change. It'll unlock the magic affinity and then you can play your character like any melee class plus all of the sorceries. To me, this made it more interesting than just melee because of the variability.
Crystall Barrage is probably the 2nd highest dps sorcery. Very high stance-breaking too. And unlike with weapons, most sorceries don't stance-break very well. But you can't afford it early-game. Too much FP usage. I mainly use it against Iron Maiden / Virgins.
I'll give you a few hints
-One area in limgrave has a magic merchant of sorts
-3 areas in the game are focused around magic. -Carian manor -Sellia - Raya Lucaria.
All of these can be accessed at the beginning of the game if however you know where they are.
Str and faith are great for beginning the game and learning it, while Dex and Int is for more advanced playthroughs.
You can still do it, just will take a bit longer and more exploration. That or use a guide.
As a death mage (end game stuff) you can burn, frost and bombard with giant skulls destroying everything you want. Try to get there at least before complaining!
But yeah in general sorcery has a severe lack of variety. Hopefully the DLC expands on sleep/death/ghostflame stuff.
Int also lets you bathe the area in magma.
Or barrage foes with swarms of ghosts.
Or conjure swords from pure magic to cleave enemies apart.
Fling rocks at things.
Drag and crush them with raw gravity.
Skewer them with bolts of ice.
Blast them with explosive bubbles.
Shred them with shards of crystal or freaking /mine them like an ore vein/.
And let's not forget the Night Maiden's Mist, which will dissolve them (and you if you're not careful) without mercy.
And that's only some of what Sorcery does.
We'll see...I want at least one int build ready for the DLC....
I wish they'd just bring back the Hex category to avoid this confusion and so Hexes can have proper support again.
Pure Int has some really fun spells.
Faith is just easier to come by however in the right hands both are pretty much equal.
Definitely look up spell locations
