Just need to vent.
This game is not for me, I need to git gud and I'm a whiny baby who is just rubbish at games. definitely a skill issue. Have I missed anything?
Okay now that is out of the way...

I've really given this game a lot of my time. Honestly I'm tired. I've tried learning about what the game is supposed to be and I just don't think I mesh with it.
Recently I read about INT build and how it is apparently 'easy mode'. I figured I could try that and then I wouldn't have to cheat and I would get the full feel of growing stronger and overcoming adversity and all that. Thing is, once I'd got the best staff in the game (from caelid), I couldn't really work on my weapons because thee's nothing stronger, or at least not for a long while. But I thought, at least I can still get better armour and improve my stats with runes. I've managed to explore a lot of liurnia though and I'm feeling massively underwhelmed and dissatisfied. I tried many times on the dragon and decided I needed to upgrade my skeletons, so i looked for a pointy statue to find a tomb and then found the cliffbottom catacombs and just getting anniihilated by the ambushes and the trolls that move like acrobats and grab hold of me... and this is after doing all of limgrave, clearing stormveil castle, exploring most of liurnia... I have almost 50 points in INT and it still takes me many hits to kill those things and it feels very frantic and scary. I like feeling like this on odd occasions in games, like on rare bosses, but in this game I feel it a lot and yet where is my reward?
I get that the game is meant to be more refined and not give you the same experience, I get that I am supposed to be more refined, but damn it, I play games for a feel good experience and I am feeling pretty morose.
Truth is, I've had the same helmet for a week, the same robe, the same shield, the same boots. every boss i beat or area i clear, gives me nothing. just some ash of war I can't use or some plate armour or some heavy axe or some pointless material for crafting.
I'm exploring and clearing areas and killing hard enemies for nothing. I can't even read over the story I've been told, not that it made any sense. I am feeling no character development or any engaging story. sure, there is lore, if you can understand it. yes it's sort of engaging to explore areas for the first time, but it just doesn't feel enough.

I'm not asking for any changes to the game, I'm not saying it's bad, I'm just venting because I need to talk about it. If I've missed any sick burns, please let me know so I can put them at the top up there. Oh and I'm waiting eagerly for all the jesters and laughing faces. Thanks ahead of time.

It's cool, man. I picked up Demon's Souls at launch, got my ♥♥♥♥ kicked in by the Dragon God (and forget about that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jail area) for almost a week, put it down for a month--and then came back and finished it up.

Fourteen years later, I'm hopelessly addicted.

If that doesn't happen for you, that's okay--and I'm sorry your experience hasn't been good thus far. But don't be afraid to put it aside for a while and come back to it fresh.

Or just put it down.

Do whatever is right for you, and the hell with what anyone else has to say about it.

Well, you suffer because you assume that ER is an RPG, while in fact it's a Mario World with hats. If you see it for what it is, then all the unrewarding bosses, bad story telling and copypaste environments make perfect sense.

If you've made it this far, maybe there is something we can find that you're overlooking.

What is your vigor, what level are you, and how strong are your flasks?

Intelligence builds are not the easeist in all cases, for all people, and for at all points in the game. It is absolutely true in some cases. They're probably easiest for people that know what they're doing, use very strong spirits, or are at end-game. However, if you're new, you will get bent over harder than with various other classes. I would have recommended a Vagabond for you for a good first class. I've seen some say Confessor too.

Are you talking about Glintstone Dragon Smarag? It has 80% magic resistances. What sorceries are you using against it? I hope not magic. Meteorite is the answer. Also, I generally leave dragons for last in each zone. Right before I move onto another zone. They seem more difficult usually than the rest of the zone.

What enemy and what ability are you using? The reward should be the enjoyment of playing the game and exploring.

This changes once you get deeper into the game. So much so that I was changing my appearance pretty often on my Astrologer. But if you really want a different appearance now, you could just wear some heavier stuff but only 2-3 pieces. Don't put on the helmet or gloves, etc.

That's what Miyazaki said about ER bosses.

Even when you "git gud" like myself and manage to parry crucible knights blindfolded,

you realize there is no point to it.
You destroyed the game for yourself.

And the only morbid gratification comes from knowing to be superior, show it to people that can't achieve such mastery and convince yourself your time was well spent rather than wasted.

I enjoy the game by muting it and listening to a podcast or vaty vidia old videos, when the lore was enjoyable, lmao

you are not alone man ... those are all valid criticisms ... maybe the dlc will improve things, who knows

Yes that's the one. I tried some different spells and did find that meteorite was most effective. I wasn't strong enough though. I have been putting points in vigor and mind and INT. My health is high enough to be on parity with my fp and I got all the flask upgrades so far and. I think my vigor is over 20, I forgot. I did put points in there to be able to take hits though, it's just those imps, if they get too close they can take off over half my HP.

I appreciate your intentions, but I had help with this many times and this is more a case of me just not getting along with how the game is designed :)

I'm assuming you're one of thousands (possibly millions) who also fell for the hype.

This game isn't for everyone; don't worry about it.

woah, dude I think you hit the nail on the head.

I mean it's probably different for different people, but this sounds really astute.

Lies. Miyazaki is more of a Luigi man.

Fair enough @ not being strong enough. I would avoid that dude for a while if I were you.

Hmm, I hope it's significantly over 20. Otherwise, that sounds low. It should probably be at 35 by now.

Regarding the imps, unfortunately getting through them without taking many hits is quite the balance act. Not sure if there's a shortcut around them. They still get me sometimes. I primarily used charged heavy attacks with a Caestus and that did the trick for me. I used that strategy from beginning to end.

Ubisoft holds your hand. Real games don't. Just play and get stronger in all facets that you need.

Huh, judging by the games in your library, this game most certainly is for you. Judging by the time you've spent in the games that are in your library, you need more patience and focus. Also, I'd advice against using sorceries in ER. They are somewhat okay in the beginning, but get old fast. And by the MotG area they aren't even useful in kills per FP terms. Incantations are much more fun. 20 vigor means that you will die from everything and there are some attacks that can't be dodged or outdistanced at all. I'd advise you to pick any melee build that you are absolutely terrible with and roll with it. If you get to a site of grace with any runes, spend them all; if you lose any runes to death, don't spend any effort to pick them up. Git as bad at the game as you possibly can. Then you will reach enlightenment. :catinablanket:

I don't care what anyone says, imps are annoying as ♥♥♥♥. I feel for the poster, sometimes you wish this game would just chill for a second so you can hack'n'slash some enemies but it hardly ever does.
Sgt. Flaw Mar 16, 2023 @ 7:53pm
INT is NOT easymode.....go straight bonk and make sure you level properly and the bosses become easy.

Imps are just such imps. I love how this little stone bastards always try to ambush me and use bleed weapons. I enjoy fighting them and brutally mercilessly killing them. :steammocking:
